Acid Dip? and valve train?
a whats up,
I took apart my head and block and im sending my head away to get a port and polish, and for the block i was thinking about a acid dip my friend told me it would work great on my block but im just woundering if its safe?
Any other ways out there to get my block cleaned besides trying to degrease it myself?????
Anyone ever get an acid dip done to there block?
What will i need to upgrade on my valve train to support the ctr pistons??

if acid dipping is what i am thinking is done to a block when its all cleaned up, it will be fine. i tried going the cheaper/less work route and cleaning the block myself. i surely regret that now and did as i was trying to clean up the block. its a RPITA!

i know the napa around here hot tanks the block and head for only $50. as for the valvetrain, use ITR intake springs and move your B16 intake springs to the exhaust side.

Definately get all of the parts you can hot tanked and magnafluxed (this is an inspection process that ensures that there are no cracks in the block or head) it is well worth it!!
While your at it, get both decks surfaced to make sure the head gasket seals tightly. and get the block honed, the mains line honed, the crank journals polished and the rods honed. with new piston rings, bearings, and a full gasket kit, you'll basically have a brand new engine.
Most shops will do all of this as a package deal, i just had my d16a6 done and it cost me $200 for all of the machine work and another $250 for the re-ring kit (including all rings, bearings, and gaskets at http://www.importperformanceparts.net)
If you have a little $$ left over, I would also recomend bringing in the entire rotating assembly (crank, rods, pistons, flywheel, and crank pulley) and getting the assembly balanced together. For another $100 this gives helps your engine run smoother and with proper break-in you should be able to go another 100,000mi without problems.
Also, if your running any kind of boost, now's the time for new pistons and a block guard!!

i believe you can't really do an "acid dip" your head or block because its aluminum. ever pore acid on aluminum. all sorts of smoke and what not. the only blocks and heads you can acid dip are cast iron ones. and it does work good too we had a tank at the school that i went to.
