91 honda crx transmission fluid
Hey. I just got a 1991 honda crx not to long ago and i wanted to change the transmission fluid. I asked the guy at the auto shop what to use and he said that I could just use 10w-30 or 10w-40 engine oil. And I wanted to know if this would actually work instead of getting honda transmission fluid. Thanks.

Yes it is. If you look at the service manual it will tell you that. I used 10W-30. You do not want fully synthetic because it takes longer to warm up.

agreed.. 10w-30 or 10w-40 depending on the region you live in, or Honda MTF.. 80w-90 is definitely not what you want to be using. the transmissions were built to use lower viscosity oil. Honda builds the transmissions with tighter tolerances that most other manufacturers, so the higher viscosity oil is not necessary, and could even cause premature wear issues because parts with tighter tolerances will be getting less oil than they should.
