Wow. I'm in the middle of steel wooling a block... That is damn clean. I'm jealous. How long did that take you? Did you use any chemicals?

Re: 91 CRX rebuild
Thanks man
First I had everything hot tanked at a shop, but after that I just used steel wool myself without any chemicle cleaners to remove all the imperfections and oxidizations. It only took me a couple hours. I first used steel wool grit #2 followed by grit 000, I have grit 0000 but I haven't used that yet.
Thanks again for all the support!

Re: 91 CRX rebuild
Well the plan was to keep everything stock and use this as a very fuel efficient dd, but now I'm kinda getting attached to my ef and want to do a lot to it lol. I'm not doing anything to it in the near future besides i/h/e, but the thought of engine swaps, boost, and everything else inbetween have definitly crept into my mind My original plan was after getting this car up and running I was going to sell my 6th gen accord and buy a 3000gt VR4 (I know, boo DSM lol) and fully build that, but we'll see what the future brings. Oh I almost forgot I also have the complete rear disk conversion, so that will go on sometime soon as well.

Re: 91 CRX rebuild
Here's my dilema now, I'm contemplating weather or not I should have the block resurfaced. If you look at the pic on page 2 you'll see how the mating surface of the block has the marks still left over from the old head gasket. Will those cause a new head gasket to not seal properly? Also is a graphite head gasket ok or is it just trash? Keep in mind this engine isn't going to see much power. Any input would be appreciated thanks.

Re: 91 CRX rebuild
im pretty sure it would still seal but i would get it resurfaced just for the peace of mind. and for the headgasket im pretty sure you can get one from a z6 and it would be metal and still be the same as the other one. dont quote me but i would look into it. and if not im sure the graphite one will work since thats what honda used for it.

Re: 91 CRX rebuild
Bump for some quality info and pics. I can't wait to see this up and running in clean original gear.
Here's some motivation from Eric

Re: 91 CRX rebuild
My tranny cleaned up nice like the block. I've only done the first grit so far and I still need to get in some of the small cracks, but still looks pretty frosty.

^^^ I would too, lol. We just got done with his 460whp build.
McGrubber, I worry about a clear coat yellowing under hot conditions.

Re: 91 CRX rebuild
there is stuff called diamond clear made especially for the clearing of metals. maybe it will be ok. heat yellowing would be a problem though. I'm not sure if they have hi-heat clear or anything, but it worth looking into i suppose.
