Premium Ampco pin bushings

horsepower range for these rods is 800 H.P.

Pistons=Manley Platinum Series
2618 high strength material; lightweight design
Premium Chrome Moly pin included
Perfect ring groove to skirt squareness
Pressure balance groove
Premium Steel top ring sets and Round Wire locks included

Recommended piston clearance .0040" measured 1.100" from the bottom of the oil ring

Engine mounts
cold air intake
JDM distributer

What I have ordered

skunk2 66 mm throttle body
skunk2 coilover/strut assembly
rear lower control arm, front upper control arm
new radiator and fans
plugs wires,tps etc....

My question is this.....

How should I set this engine up to be the most reliable daily driver? What fuel injectors do you recommend and would you change out the cam and springs to get the most performance from this motor?

Thanks in advance for you help.

Need more info. What's the CR? What fuel do you plan to run? How do you plan to bolt up the GSR intake manifold to the B18A1 head?

Re: 89 CRX HF/ Beefed b18a1 swap

CR? Explain plz.

Premium fuel, The intake manifold is off of my friend James gsr motor. It bolted right to the intake no problem.

I think he is talking about the Compression Ratio.

Re: 89 CRX HF/ Beefed b18a1 swap

With the mods done on the motor I dont know what the compression ratio is. I assume its fairly high lol

crvtectim 01-01-2012 11:11 AM

Re: 89 CRX HF/ Beefed b18a1 swap

Yes, compression ratio for the pistons being used. The bolt pattern for the intake on a GSR is unique. Are you using a GSR head on a B18A1 block?

That is quite possible. I bought the motor locally in Sacremento. It was built for the guys son but he totalled his integra before hitting 5k miles.

James, my mechanic was shocked the intake fit but didnt explain why.

Anymore opionions on how the motor was rebuilt?

Re: 89 CRX HF/ Beefed b18a1 swap

Yea, I would def contact the previous owner for more details. It may be a high comp motor that requires 93 octane or higher or even E85. Also, find out if they assembled it with ARP head studs and/or rod bolts. A few more details, and we can point you in the right direction with the swap and tuning.

Thorshammer 01-01-2012 03:13 PM

Re: 89 CRX HF/ Beefed b18a1 swap

Ron fully suggested, actually stated, to run high octane only. It does indeed have arp head studs and rod bolts.

I'm buying the injectors and such this week. Would love some input here fellas. I totally trust my mechanic but would love to throw some ideas and input in his direction.

Re: 89 CRX HF/ Beefed b18a1 swap

Shit man, I thought you were the mechanic. Owned by reading. Well, if your mechanic doesn't know if the motor has a GSR head on it or not, find another mechanic! Or do the swap yourself, and put the money you saved by doing the work yourself towards a good tune. Find a tuner and pick their brain on what cams and valvetrain components will suit your build best. You should also consult your tuner about the fuel injectors before you run out and buy some.

Re: 89 CRX HF/ Beefed b18a1 swap

lol James did tell me today the motor has a gsr head on it. Seeing that he has built around 30 or so I'm sure he knows what hes doing lol

Now could anyone give me an honest opinion on this motor? My biggest reason for the swap is I carry 4-500lbs in extra stereo equipment and I'm tired of being passed by rv's going up hill.

I'm not concerned about top end speed. Im more interested in the low end torque.

My 9-5 job is building subwoofers for DC Audio and rolling to competitions on the weekend. Currently the loudest CRX on the west coast. Now I want to make it go fast and look good.

I'm told Cr is 9.6:1

Thanks to the 2 gentlemen who replied. I guess I'll just leave it up to my boys at Lake County Car Audio in Upper Lake Ca.

End of thread

Re: 89 CRX HF/ Beefed b18a1 swap

The swap will easily tote the extra weight and a 9.6:1 cr is boost friendly should you decide to add a turbo down the rode. I'm not a fan of body kits, especially when they're stuffed with chicken wire lookin' shit. But if I had to choose a kit, the Wings West kit isn't that horrible. Good luck with your build.

Once the engine and suspension ( went with skunk2 struts, springs and camber kit) are done within the next 2 weeks or so It'll get painted deep concorde midnight blue and get wrapped by my friends shop here in Reno. You can check out his truck @ www.dcsoundlab.com.

On the hood will be an ornate pic of Thorshammer Mijolnr with DC Audio on the sides. There will also be advertisements for Lake County Car Audio and Offroad (engine and suspension work ), Singer Alternators ( Hooking me up with a dual alt bracket for 400+amps of current), Kinetik Batteries(Battery Sponsor).

I'm still debating on what to run for DbDrag Finals in March but it will either be 2 or 4 lvl 5 12's, 2 9k amps, 3 multicell batts.

This is how i spend my weekends
