Icon2 Question re 5th gear ratio in J1 gearbox

I have a J1 box and several Y1 boxes and all of them have 5th gear ratios of 32 driver to 29 driven. This works out to.90625. This ratio does not show up on any of the charts I've seen in this or any other forum. Am I calculating correctly? Driven gear divided by driver 32 divided by 29 = .90625 HELP!

Check the *debatable disclaimers* on this page: http://www.ff-squad.com/tech/temp/Bgears.htm

S1/J1 5th gear = 0.848
Final drive = 4.4

Thanks gringo, I understand the theory and the disclaimer but have yet to find the 32 tooth main (driver) and 29 tooth (driven) .906 listed anywhere. All other tooth counts @ ratios are as listed.Maybe it does'nt matter anyway as the car is only in 5th for a short time at the top of Mosport's main straight. It would just be nice to know where those gears came from. Thanks again. I just re-read my original post & have trasposed the numbers in the last line . I do mean 32 driver (main) &29 tooth DRIVEN (counter)

Are you sure you're not calculating 4th gear for a cable Y1? Because if you flip your numbers and divide, you get 1.103 which is 4th gear for Y1.

Your numbers are probably accurate, as my transmission seems geared shorter than most. Does it run about 5000rpm at 70mph?

That's about where my cable S1 was before swapping in an LS 5th. I never had to downshift after I got into 5th, just cruise all over town haha. Iirc, I could coast down to roughly 12 mph in 5th at 1K rpm. 30 mph at 2K. I love my LS 5th on the Interstate though! Actually, I'm currently running LS 1st, 2nd, S1 3rd, 4th, and LS 5th. Love the combo!

The gearcounts are 1st 12-39 2nd 19 39 3rd 24-34 4th 29-32 and 5th 32-29. Final 15-66 The box is J1-1009474.I have taken apart two other boxes that I assume are Y1 (no tags) that have the same gear count but have smaller diameter synchro's.Dont really know the Revs at 70 in 5th. The car runs out of revs at 8200 ( its basicly a stock B16A) in 4th gear up the straight at Mosport & I need to shift into 5th. Thats why I like the close ratio from 1.103 in 4th to .906 in 5th , it comes back in at about 6800 and is radar'ed at 115 MPH. I would like to know what the box came from as I may need spare parts. Thanks for the help!
