Cluster swap
Integra DC into 88-89 CRX EF

:Warning:

First off BEFOR you attempt this swap just to inform you I do not hold any responsibility to anyone who follows these directions, This is the way I swapped an Integra dc cluster into my 1989 crx and your actions on following any of my directions are at your own risk!!!

I did this swap into my 1989 Honda crx HF

What you need for the swap:

- 90-91 crx cluster hood w/ buttons

- 94-99 integra cluster (your choice I used a 97)

- 94-97 Integra cluster plugs ( the 13pin plug and 16 pin plug) the yellow plug is for srs so you don’t need it and the 10pin plug is for automatic so you don’t need it either

- electronic Vehicle speed sensor (a.k.a. the vss) out of 94+integra or 92+ civic with or without plug mine was out of a 97 integra.

- and whatever your preference is on connecting the wires together along with a good length of wire maybe 15 feet (for wiring the vss)

Technical info:

So a couple things before we dig in. First the 90-91 crx’s have different cluster plugs then the 88-89 crx so if you have a 90-91 crx everything is the same but you don’t need the cluster hood and you need to get a 90-91 crx cluster plug pin diagram. Second I was having so many issues finding a correct integra cluster wire diagram or the correct crx cluster diagram so I just took the cluster and plugs and figured it out for myself by plugging the wires in one at a time. I did use the diagrams I found as a reference, some wires matched up but not all. So the wire diagrams below are not the factory diagrams there ones I personally made by testing. I found for the most part all the colors for the Interga plugs were the same as the crx plugs so its just a game of matching colors. I put the diagrams I made below.

First removal:

-Remove the stock crx cluster hood, cluster, and the medal mounting brackets that the crx cluster screws into. Also cut the stock crx pugs off. You can take the vss out later.

[IMG][/IMG]

Second wiring:

- Connect all the wires from the integra plugs to the crx harness, all the colors match up together but the high beams and the trunk signal, so if you connect those first its easy to just match the other ones up by color.

- At this time if you want you can run the door open light wire on the integra plug ( pin 15 green/red on the bigger integra plug) to the crx door switch, it’s a ground signal.
- You can also run the seat belt light wire too but I did not connect this wire because I have 5 point harnesses, but I think it’s a ground also but I am not sure so test it.

- In the end you will have 2 wires left coming out of the crx harness. The yellow/red ( you use later for the vss) the other one is not used for anything so forget about it its (pin 4 blue/yellow on the smaller crx plug)

[IMG][/IMG]

Third mod’s to the integra cluster:

-Cut the mounting tabs off the sides of the integra cluster. It wont fit unless you do.

-There is no way to secure the cluster so I put a tab on the top of the cluster and drilled a hole threw the new cluster hood so I could put a screw threw the hood to the cluster (see pics below) you don’t have to do that it will stay pretty secure just sitting in there.

Fourth the vss:

Mounting:
So in order for the vss to go into the trany you have to cut off a couple of the tabs because the motor mount is in the way. (See pictures below) Remove the old vss by removing the 10mm bold and use a flathead screwdriver, or small crowbar to pry it up. You can also pull the speedometer cable out at this time. The new vss just goes in the same way the old one came out, but you cant bolt it down unless u elongate the hole about a half an inch inward. I didn’t bolt mine down it stayed in nice and snug for a while but started to pop out so I ended up bolting it down anyways.
Wiring:
Ok so every diagram I found online for the vss wiring was wrong…… If you are looking down at the plug and the clip is facing away it goes ground, power, signal (pic below) run 3 wires from the cluster to the vss. You can run the wires threw where you pulled the speedometer cable out. Connect the ground to the ground wire (pin 8 on the smaller integra plug), power to the black/yellow wire ( pin6 on the bigger integra plug ) and signal wire to both the orange coming of the Integra plug (pin 11 on the bigger plug) and the yellow/red wire on the crx harness (pin 2 on the smaller plug of the crx) the yellow/red wire goes back to the ecu, the signal wire MUST be connected to both wires.

Fifth putting it back together:

-Plug in the new cluster and put the hood on. Put the screw threw to the hood to the cluster (if you did that) The dimmer switch in the new hood has the same plug as the old one so it plugs right in and your hazard switch is on the steering column so the one on the new cluster doesn’t do anything and I didn’t do anything for the rear defog because mine doesn’t work so I didn’t bother they just fills the hole basically. Enjoy

Let me know if this was able to help anyone out!

Whats up guys, Im new on here and couldn't really figure out where to make my own new post, so i figure i would just ask on a post that is similar to my question. I need to know where i can find some wiring diagrams or clean pictures of all wiring connections for my 88-91 crx. have everything wired up but just need to know where everything connects from the headlights, taillights and also everything under the dash. Any help would be appreciated! thanx!

Nice walk through! I did my own conversion by just tracing each wire on the back of each cluster lol (89 Si -> 01 GSR). By the way, you don't HAVE to cut off any of the mounting tabs to make it fit. You just need to use a little muscle and it will wedge itself into the dash. And the top mounting tab fits right inside the hood keeping it still and stable.

Just in case some of you did not notice the type-o in regards to the vss wiring, the wiring should be (according to the integra pinout posted):

pin6 on smaller integra plug is ground
pin11 on bigger integra plug is power
pin6 on bigger integra plug is VSS signal
