Re: 1991 CRX Turbo B18 project/build thread
The B18 itself has been the one piece of this car that seems to be solid. I haven't done a compression test yet, but it runs great when the tune is good and takes any abuse I've given it. Doesn't smoke or anything which is weird for me in a turbo car. It appears to have been well built and I am glad for it.
Need to get the cars other bugs worked out so I can really put it through it's paces and have a more thorough opinion.

Thanks guys!
Work on the car has paused for now, as I have tucked it away for the winter and have other things I need to take care of. Once those are out of the way and I can allocate some more funds to the rex I'll begin my winter projects.
Items I currently am trying to sell to get a jump start on it:
-Stage 5 Comp clutch kit and flywheel for small spline B series
-Fluidyne full radiator with fans for D series

Thanks for all the compliments. It's easy to forget that it's still got some appeal when I'm always focused on the issues it has.
Going to be ordering the radiator soon, so I can get that mocked up and figure out how to mount it.
For now, heres a pic from the last time I had it out this year, and one where it will be sitting for the next several months.

Got the S2 radiator mocked up, fits with absolute perfection. There is an extra bracket that comes with it for mounting the second bottom peg, but it feels plenty secure with just one top, one bottom and the hoses connected.
Got my gauge wiring redone to the top of the dash so I can see them. The way things are coming together, I’m already super excited for spring to come. I think the car is going to be much more enjoyable next year.
Now I can figure out where to fit a fan and get that ordered. Also planning on ordering a new turbo in about two weeks, so stay tuned!

Went ahead and got the Spal pusher fan, just test fitting to the rad. Going to get one of those ziptie fan mounting kits.
Working on ordering the turbo now. Once that gets here, will have everything I need to make thecar fully functional again.
To do list:
- Mount fan and rad
- Wire fan back into thermo switch, using new relay and inline fuse I picked up. Also going to put an LED on the dash to show when the fan is on.
- Install new turbo, run water lines to it
- Flush and reconnect heater core
- Finish wiring up gauges
- Purchase and install Moroso battery box
Thats everything on my winter list right now, but with any luck I’ll have it all done sometime in January.

Really appreciating this build thread, you are helping me orienate my own ideas. Even though I understand very little about the work I am doing.

Got one semi-important component in the mail today.
Just waiting on a few more things I ordered from Amazon. The fan mounting kit, a proper coolant overflow tank, and a new K&N filter for the turbo.
That should all be here Tuesday, then I’ll be ready to get this thing going again.

The last parts just arrived. Will start reassembling the car on Friday, and will try to document each step of the process. Lots of work ahead!

I will be interested to see what you end up making for power with your setup. We are running the exact same turbo, with very similar builds. Great work! I'm excited for you to finally have some of these bugs worked out and have real fun with your car in 2018. Now the real question, who will run faster in the 1/4?

The closest 1/4 mile track is like 6 hours away from me, so I will gladly allow you to hold that one

Haha, well I haven’t changed much since it made 401whp on the original setup. I should be able to do the same, and I really don’t want to go past 400 on the stock sleeves, maybe even a little less. It’s pretty useless on street tires.

Thats the main reason I dragrace so much, its 3 miles from my house

Not sure who this was directed at. But mine is a GSR bottom end, ported B16 head w/GSR cams (I think this is called a poor mans type R?), and an LS tranny.

Thanks, but not at the moment. Got a lot of other priorities.
So much to do right now, probably took on too many things at once. If something isn’t right, it’ll be hard to tell where I fucked up!
Anyway, had planned to work on the car today, ended up getting our christmas shopping out of the way instead. Ah well, there’s always next week!
I ordered the connector to make the harness for the spal fan. For some reason, none of the auto parts stores carry these. Weird.
On the fan
What I ordered
