Have a 1989 Honda Civic LX that has turned into an old beater (rust, etc.) but still gets up and goes every day except for usual stuff. Yesterday it stalled in a turn lane, I thought maybe I had run it out of gas, was low but was not exactly on EMPTY. After sitting for about 5 minutes or so tried it again on a whim and it started right up. Went to nearest gas station and put a couple gallons in so I could go to my usual place. Did just fine. Left in the afternoon for an appointment and got about two miles, did the same thing. Waited, started after a couple minutes, cancelled my appt. and turned around, a mile down road to a Walmart parking lot and shut it off, went in to get a Subway and think about what to do. Autozone would diagnose it, so started to nearest Autozone, died just off the Walmart parking lot right out in the middle of the busiest intersection in Middle Tennessee. Couple guys pushed it to a carwash parking lot. Called my roadside assistance, towed to a Big New Auto Service Center. They called this morning, say it needs a new distributor, will be over 500.00. BTW, as the tow truck driver was getting ready to load it, I asked him to see if it would start again, and it did. He carried it down to the shop (maybe 300 yards down the very busy road) anyway.

What are the symptoms of a bad distributor? Sorry, I don't trust any shop after one I had used for years just about crippled my car. Idea came to me a little while ago about putting some Seafoam in in case there was moisture in the tank, also wondering if it's a fuel filter needs changing? I need help right away.

Its possible but $500!!!?? They r crazy......
