1989 Civic Brake lights not working...is there a switch near the brake pedal?
I checked all three bulbs ( rear wondow brake light and the two in the back ) and the fuses, everything is OK. When I hit the pedal, the lights don't come on. So I am not sure what to do next...I dread taking it to a mechanic for this.
I have heard it could be a mecahnical switch that is triggered by the brake pedal, or it could be a hydraulic switch. Can anyone help me with this. Does this sound like a switch probelm? Where is it located? Any help would be beyond helpful. I have looked around under the dash by the pedal but don't see anything. |

Well, that is where the switch is located but I cannot for the life of disconnect the 2-P connector from thebrake switch. Access is horrible, I can just barely get a grip on the connector, and it does not want to pull straight off. Is there a clip or something to push?
I saw breaks in the insulation on the 4 wires going into the P-2 that exposed the wire inside. I separated them so they were not touching and checked but nothing lit up. I am thinking I have to take it into the shop unless I am missing something obvious. thanks very much for the diagram jlicrx |
Re: (babybreese)
yes on the one side of the wiring there is a clip you push in.. Then it will pull straight off, then just jump the switch with a piece of wire, and if the lights work, your switch was bad..
Make sure your horn/stop fuse in the underhood fuse box is good. |

I don't think he's going to respond.
