1988 CRX DX, Fuse 12 (15A) keeps blowing

Fuse 12 is listed as cig lighter, dome lights, and interior clock. As soon as I put a new fuse in, it blows.

Any ideas where I should start?

get ur car manual and locate the fuse on the schmatic and look for the wires coming in and going out of were the fuse goes.. check for shorts, cut wires etc..

Sounds good, I hope I can locate it without too much trouble cause a lot of wires are wrapped into bunches with electrical tape. Thanks!

clock, radio, cig lighter, trunk light, and dome is on 12. i just had this same problem
stock or after market radio? anything in your cig lighter?
pull the wires on each componet and install fuse if it blows go to next item on list
if it doesnt blow look for you promlem in that set of power wire see image for help

:thud:

There is no bulb in the dome light (can anyone tell me what size it is?), the radio (aftermarket Sony) doesn't work, the cig lighter doesn't work, and I don't think the trunk light is functional either (when is it supposed to turn on?).

Thanks! This will make finding the problem much faster... I'll report back once I find out what is wrong.

Edit: The clock works but the time resets after the car is turned off.

the clock reset because the fuse 12 is a hot at all times.. and acts as a memory for the clock and radio...
non will work as long as the fuse is blown
i would say pull the radio and check the yellow wire on the back of the radio as that is the constant power to the radio the red wire is the acc. so when u turn the key on the radio turns on... if the yellow is off and hitting a ground u will pop fuse factory color on the car i belive is white with blue strip.

What is "acc" for the red wire?

When you mean "hitting a ground", do you mean the insulation could have been worn and be hitting a piece of metal?

I will probably be working on it the day after tomorrow because I'm swamped with school work right now.

Re: 1988 CRX DX, Fuse 12 (15A) keeps blowing

the red wire on the back of the radio or the white and blue strip on the chassie harness could have bare metal and hitting something metal in the dash and grounding out..
same goes for the cig lighter as well and the clock fuse 12 is the white and blue strip wire curcuit
acc is for accessory red wire on back of radio
yellow is constant should have power all times

Thank you for the clarification.

What did it end up being in your case?

I'll report back when I find it.

Re: 1988 CRX DX, Fuse 12 (15A) keeps blowing

I checked it out today.

I removed the console and I noticed a black wire (ground) from the radio just hanging (not attached to anything). I figured since it wasn't grounded, then that might be causing it. So I grounded it and put a new fuse in and it popped.

I then unplugged the radio and then put a new fuse in. It popped, too.

I unplugged the cig lighter and put a new fuse in. It also popped.

I followed the white/blue wire as much as I could but it is mostly wrapped in a black wire tubing, so I doubt that it's cut along there.

Red acc. wire is hot, but the yellow wire is never hot (even when motor is on). Could this be causing it.

Where should I go from here?

Has anyone since this threads last entry solve a fuse #12 problem? And how.

I have this issue
