215/75 or 225/70 1st Gen
Hey all, just got my hands on a first gen. Simply need a quick answer on what is an easier fit with the OEM 2000 wheels, the 215/75 or the 225/70? The vehicle is totally stock right now, and I'm not opposed to lift spacers in the future.
Thanks in advance!

I can't tell you from experience, but seeing many posts on these pages it seems most people go the 215/75 route. What are your goals? The 215/75 size is about 1/2 inch larger in diameter than the 225/70 tire so you'll get more height, less footprint.

However, you meant to say, 'about 1/2 inch larger in width' instead of, 'about 1/2 inch larger in diameter.'
The 215/75 is not 0.5" or 1/2" but a mere 0.1476378" or 1/7" larger in diameter (3.75mm*)
225/70 is 10mm wider, or 0.4 inch
215*0.75=height=161.25mm
225*0.70=height=157.5mm
==============
*3.75mm diameter difference
you report that 215/70 is the route most people go, thanks. I speculate perhaps people think the over hang of the rims on the 225 is just to much for stability considerations and load carrying handicap, or maybe the 225s are rare and expensive?

Good catch Mike. I did my multiplication right, and my subtraction wrong. I also sometimes stab myself with my toothbrush while trying to brush my teeth. Amazing how the simple tasks are sometimes the most difficult.
I asked about the OP's goals because they matter. Some people do go the 225 route on here because they autocross and want the extra footprint. They also tend to go with a 7" wide wheel. I personally was thinking of going with a 205/75 (205/70 being stock) because I don't want the larger foot print. I commute 60 miles a day and more drag is only going to drop my fuel economy farther. A tad extra height is welcomed though. If I want to have fun in my car I'll take my other car to work which is packing 275's out back and 245's up front. On those days fuel economy is definitely not my main concern!
