DIY: 2005 CRV Fog Lights instal with no switch

25 Attachment(s)
So today I got my fogs in the mail. Just some cheapo fog lights from ebay because on my good car I bought BNIB fogs from the dealership and 2 weeks later rock busted them and buy buy $300....

Here is what I got
Attachment 446485

Attachment 446486

So lets get started.
First thing pop your hood so you can get to the clips on the top
Attachment 446487

Attachment 446488

Then turn your wheels to one side then the other so you can get these side screws out
Attachment 446489

and the classic upper screws
Attachment 446490

then all the pop screws underneath
Attachment 446491

then with some force pop and pull the bumper off
Attachment 446492

Attachment 446493

Now lay down some carpet and put your bumper down so you can start working on your foglights
Attachment 446494

First using a razor and a dremel cut out the fog light housing
Attachment 446495

Attachment 446496

then use sand paper to clean it up. Mine didn't come with a beauty trim but came with some rubber seal to place on the cut
Attachment 446497

Now add your spring clips (3 on each side)
Attachment 446498

and go ahead and mount your fog light
Attachment 446499

beautiful
Attachment 446500

Now for the wiring..... this bullshit ebay kit was so bad the switch literally did not fit! WTF?! So I wired it to not use a switch since I love foglights anyways...

So first you need to stretch out your wiring and figure out your ground and power situation. For my ground I added the ground to the factory harness on the passenger side
Attachment 446501

Then I found a place to mount my relay and fuse for power on the battery side...
Attachment 446502

Then ran the power wire up to the battery
Attachment 446503

Now to turn on our fogs.. I used the city light for an on switch. So first I unplugged the socket
Attachment 446504

I was having a tough time getting to the wiring so I unplugged all the headlights so I could pull the harness down! Made a world of difference. Now I used a t-tap to tap into the power line of the socket
Attachment 446505

Then taped it all up with electrical tape to clean it up and protect it!
Attachment 446506

Now bolt it all back up and test it out!!

no lights

Re: DIY: 2005 CRV Fog Lights instal with no switch

Awesome thread. Good work. I got aftermarket fogs for an '06 on ebay with a switch which also didn't fit, so I bought an OEM one which requires re-wiring to work with the ebay harness but haven't tried installing it yet.

I ended up getting morimoto LED fogs and wired them up similar to how you did- directly to the parking lights.

That aside, I am curious about where the harness connects to the interior/cab & where to feed through the firewall. I've had a hell of a time trying to find pics on that. If anyone knows I'd appreciate it.

I had a hard time getting the switch to work so I gave up on it and tapped the parking lights too.

I was interested in getting the Winjet Fog Lamps too for my 2006 CRV SE. I assume you guys were trying to put the switch in the empty spot that is to the right of the Cruise Control Switch yet still left of the steering column? I know the switch spot to the right of the steering column is for the heated seat control.

The Winjet kit seems to be the only one that uses the standard Honda connector for the switch, incase it breaks just get a honda switch. I have a DEPO kit right now that came broken, seller refunded me and told me to keep. I was able to repair the broken brackets but I'm unsure if I want to wait til install day to find out if it works. The DEPO kit like many others, comes with a switch that looks nothing like factory and the connector is universal so if it breaks, your SOL.

Re: DIY: 2005 CRV Fog Lights instal with no switch

Actually Nevermind. I've been digging up pictures of the Winjet kit, the Factory Switch, and the Depo Kit and came to the conclusion that the Winjet kit doesn't even use a factory style harness. The connector that I thought was factory because it was green and resembled the factory shape actually isn't correct. The factory plug is keyed and blue. I think I'll stick with DEPO kit. Hopefully my repair job aligns correctly.

Did you order the winjet kit and oem switch? Thinking about going this route and wiring it up to make it work with the oem switch...

Caoboy 01-31-2017 06:28 PM

Re: DIY: 2005 CRV Fog Lights instal with no switch

TBH I have no idea which kit I ordered. It was cheap on an eBay auction and I ended up winning it for $30

Mainly bought it for the housings and worst case I'll make my own harness and just connect it like this write up shows.

I've also seen the EK fog light write-up which uses an OEM switch, I've wondered if we can also use OEM harnesses in the body harness like that write-up does.

Re: DIY: 2005 CRV Fog Lights instal with no switch

Yeah, seems like all those eBay kits are the same shit different labels. Let us know it turns out cause the front bumper looks naked without fogs and that's next on my to-do list.

Also, if you don't mind, can you PM me pics of the plug end that plugs into the switch?

Update, it's a Spec D Tuning kit.

There are no instructions :thud:

Cao, what route did you end up going with the wiring?

Caoboy 02-20-2017 01:50 PM

Re: DIY: 2005 CRV Fog Lights instal with no switch

Followed OP's route.

The switch also didn't fit, which is why.

As an added bonus, when locking and unlocking, the fogs flash as well, helping the blind find their car in the dark ;)

Re: DIY: 2005 CRV Fog Lights instal with no switch

don't people use other Honda fog light switch to make it fit?

Caoboy 02-20-2017 05:02 PM

Re: DIY: 2005 CRV Fog Lights instal with no switch

Other people have used a factory fog light switch.

I do not have one on hand, so I do not know if it would work with the aftermarket wiring.

If I were to go the factory switch route, I'd find a wrecked CRV and pull the factory fog light wiring harnesses out and use those, ensuring it's wired properly...

Re: DIY: 2005 CRV Fog Lights instal with no switch

Re: DIY: 2005 CRV Fog Lights instal with no switch

Question, are these cars prewired for fogs?

edit: never mind, cao just told me that it's not prewired. I guess I'll order the eBay kit and use their harness and try to splice it into the oem switch&pigtail that I just got from the yard off an 02 but I own an 05.

Anyone know if you can switch the 05-06 bumpers with round lights for the 02-04 bumpers with rectangle lights?

Caoboy 11-04-2018 09:37 AM

Re: DIY: 2005 CRV Fog Lights instal with no switch

You have to change the headlights and front grille. Maybe the fenders as well but I’m not sure on that.

Hey. So I was wondering if you know where they fucking metal brackets that comes with this kit goes? I haven’t been able to find any actual instructions. So it’s been a mystery as to where they go.

Caoboy 08-22-2019 04:53 PM

Re: DIY: 2005 CRV Fog Lights instal with no switch

Post a pic of the bracket.

I think I threw them out. Didn't need them, I mounted mine like the OP.
