Anyone wanna play Name That Noise?

Anyone wanna play Name That Noise?
My 2008 went in to the shop for some front end bushings to be replaced (knocking sound when making turns and or over bumps during turns).
I got it back, and immediately it's been making this whining noise between 40-60 mph.
It's inconsistent - the whining skips or jutters on and off, especially at the boundaries of the 40-60mph speed range.
It doesn't happen every day.
It's not coming from texture in the pavement as it can remain consistent when traversing multiple pavement types where road work is of different ages.
The mechanic didn't know on his first look.
It MAY be more prominent on windy days...or I'm just making bad associations.
Anyone got any thoughts, I've got a big road trip this weekend, and want to address it if it's a safety issue, or just for my sanity when driving - Thanks ! Frank

That does not sound good at all. Definitely something that's rotating is making contact, grinding, or it's maybe even bearing noise. I would take it back to that shop asap and have them fix their **** up.

Might check all the moldings around the windows, on the roofline, wheel wells, front end. You would be surprised what noises they make if loose sometimes too. It's not when idling, only moving? Hopefully you can figure it out.

Hey FrankN Did you find your problem ? I have the identical noise 2008 Element EX auto 110000 miles .... same mph as yours and rpm makes no difference ...same speed put in neutral still there .... turned it off still there . I have got most of the dash out and can't nail it. I ran a borescope thru HVAC ducts , checked fresh air door open ,closed and all seems ok .and everywhere else behind dash ...checked firewall and under and over every inch with borescope on front half of car and nothing . Tried a xternal microphone on iphone with db app and no luck. Just ordered a Chassis Ear been wantin one any ways . Steve
