2005 Honda CR-V Transmission Help
I have a 2005 Honda Crv with 4wd realtime, 5 speed Auto. Last night the transmission blew up on me. Right now i am exploring options and really all i want to know is can i get a 2wd trans, take the PTU off the old trans and bolt it on the the "new" one and make it work the same. Or do i have get a 4wd realtime transmission.

My guess is no, but you could go to an online oem Honda parts dealer and compare part numbers of the two housings if they are the same part number, your plan will work.

Okay from the research I've been doing I have a K24. Now do all K series engines have the same transmission bellhousing pattern or are they different amongst the different submodels? For example, I can I take a K20's transmission and put it on a K24?

The 2wd transmission won't have the required second ring gear. And depending on what the transmission come out of it might not have the PTO provision.
You will need to find another AWD transmission.

I had a look at parts diagrams, the 2wd automatic from the 2005 CR-V did not have the provisions for the PTO/Transfercase.
If you want to keep AWD you will need to find an AWD transmission.

Ok, so from doing some other research and taking to a guy JDM, i have seen that there is a difference in years about the 5AT. What is different between the 2002-2004 5AT and the 2005 5AT? I cant see or understand why there is a difference in the transmission in the same generation of car. I would think that all 2nd gen CRVs and Elements would share interchangeable parts.

Middle of 05 the CR-V got a bigger better rear end. They changed the gear ratio in the rear as well. Might be part of what you are seeing. I believe they also added CAN bus at that time. Will know more when my 05-06 service manual gets delivered. There is a distinct difference as the service manuals are 02-04 and then 05-06. The same is not true for the Element.
Could also be they changed PCMs and that changes the transmission electronics.

05-06 are 5spd auto's while 02-04 were 4spd auto's. It would be best to investigate more by using the VIN #, look up the auto transmission part # and see what CRV's came with it.

Just an idea, How easy is it to convert a 4wd to a 2wd? Is it as simple as install a 2wd transmission with TCM and remove the drive shaft to the rear?
