Default Zex camshaft question

Will the Zex 59300 fit my civic 2000 Ex? Does it require valve springs? I've heard/read both that they do require the upgrades and they do not, so which is it? Also, is this a good camshaft upgrade for a daily driven car? THanks.

Z </TD></TR></TABLE>a lot of times cams dont usually require upgrading your valvetrain...but certain cams i.e. jun 3's make power up top so it is reccomended that you upgrade your valvetrain and ecu so you can make power over your stock redline

So, does this camshaft fit my Civic? Anyone run this in a SOHC w/ or w/out upgraded valvetrain have any feedback? Thanks.

Yes it will fit your Ex with the D16Y8 motor ... HOWEVER you will need an adjustable cam gear to bring the timing back to spec as the D16Z6 cam (Zex 59300) will be 1/2 tooth off ( I can never remember if it is retarded or advanced)

Valve Springs .... they are reccomended but not required IF you keep the stock rev limit ... but if you have a raised rev limit (chipped ECU etc) then you will require the Valve springs .... You do NOT need the Titanium retainers ... the stock retainers are very light to begin with and as they are a wear item. As a result I beleive ethat Ti retainers are a waste in D-series motors

It is a good cam for a street car, stock idle, good power, bit noisier than stock, slightly worse gas milage ... pulls good in Vtec

Cheers

i think the stage 2 camshaft only makes power up to 8200 RPM so it would be pointless to rev it past that

Moose </TD></TR></TABLE>

Zex now has the 59300 cam made especially for 96-00 ex's so you wont have to worry about getting cam gears to keep the timing withing spec.
