I know this is probably a dumb question but what exactally is a zc motor? what did it come in? and what is it comparably to? Is it better than my stock 95 ex motor? and i would like to see some pics of it in a eg would be great. i want to know if i should get one or continue building my d16. thanks

There are 2 versions of the ZC...SOHC and DOHC...your most likely interested in the SOHC, since its obd1 and was found in many cars in japan. I have a DOHC ZC in my EG which is pretty rare about these parts....
The SOHC ZC is almost the same as the z6, I hardly know the differences.....
The DOHC motor was meant mostly from CRX/ and EF hatches....look in the EF Forum for more help...
Thats my DOHC ZC in my EG...rare!!

Re: (skribblah)
I heard that you can use the sohc tranny with the dohc. is this true? and what are the advantages of have the dohc rather than the d16z6? what are the stats on this motor? and what kind of 1/4 times should be expected out of this motor? with basic mods?

The ZC is a decent engine for the price, it's DOHC has aprox 130hp & 111ft/lb tq. The engine will mount to any d series tranny. The times you should expect are anywhere between a 15.0-16.5 depending on car weight, elevation, temp., and driving abilities, etc. I have one in my 91 Si.
There is a SOHC that is similar to the Z6, I beleieve it's essentially teh same as a "mini me" combo; an A6 block w/ a Z6 head. I could be wrong since I don't have one. You can refer to: http://www.thezcr.com for more info on both versions.

They pretty much got it right, both are a d series.....any d series tranny will bolt up.....130 horse 111lbs of torque...I have basic mods but haven't ran it at the track the way it sits now...
Comptech 4-2-1 Header
Apexi N1 Full Catback
"J's Racing" Intake**
2.25in Test Pipe
UR Crank Pulley**
Chipped p06 ECU(ZC program with 8500k redline)**
MSD Plugwires
B&M FPR
EX/SI tranny
Stock Clutch/Flywheel
JimFab Motor mounts
The best times I've ran was 16.4 @ 86mph (without the ** items) Before my chipped ecu I was running a p75 Teg LS ecu with the 6800 Fuel Cut Off.....More times after tonite................
THanks for the compliments guys I try...

Slowcivichmm. Let us know what you run, I'm curios to see- if you could tell us elevation & post a slip. I'm curious to get an aproximation to how fast I'd run. I have the DOHC ZC w/ith a PM6 ECU w/ I/H/E Hi flo cat, and an AEM alternator pulley. So the mod's are simlar, but I imagine you're putting down a little more power.
Sorry to thread jack.......

No problem bro....
I need tunning, I'm running mad rich and I'd like to advance my timing...and get a valve adjustment to the higher end of spec......we'll see....
Running Saturday Night is a big maybe.......I live in Phx, AZ....will be running at Firebird International Raceway, whatever elevation that is....

Re: (SlowCivicHmm)
I run 15.7 on my d16z6 with my mods. Could i bolt up my current mods (see signature) to the zc? i weighed my car last week and it tipped the scale at 2400 lbs.
It is a 95 civic ex coupe. So would it be worth putting a zc in if my mods bolt up? or should i keep on building my z6?

The engine is a ZC1 engine and its the engine that is in my 1986 CRX Gen1 ( i live in europe )
The engine with the polished valve cover is the one in my car at the moment.

i vote for the z6 the zc is a good motor, but not worth the hassle of the swap when you have an equally good motor in there already. There are some very informative threads floating around here about building a killer d. Also check out homemadeturbo.com

Re: (thehatchninja)
Doesn't the OBD-1 DOHC ZC have 5 more HP then the OBD-0 one?so....135 vs 130? Personaly, I love the ZC engine. I have a OBD-1 ZC in my CRX with a SI tranny and that thing screams! Lots of low end torque.
