z6 block + y8 trans + y8 head + z6 cams.

the y8 oiling system is oil consuming.
the z6's tranny doesnt have steel shift forks like the y8's tranny has.
the y8 head flows slightly more.
the z6 cams are slightly more aggressive.
correct me if im wrong.

they both have their strong and weak points. but either is fine if you are going OBD1.

^ True for the most part. IIRC the Z6 head will flow better. Just swap the Y8 intake manifold.

What are you doing with the motor?

If you're even going to bother swapping out the cam, go with aftermarket.

This is a non-issue. Neither transmission is "better." The aluminum forks break, and the steel forks bend - both issues will cause major problems. You generally want to just look for a low-mileage transmission in good condition with no grinds, regardless of whether it is a Z6 or a Y8 transmission.
