Z6 main bearing replacement question
I'm thinking of checking the bearing clearances on a '95 Z6. I was wondering if all the mains can be replaced by dropping the oil pan. The last one I saw looked like it would be very difficult to replace the upper end main bearing shells due to the oil pump and the flywheel.
I'm also wondering about main bearing wear. A buddy claims that the upper half of main bearings shouldn't get much wear as most of the loads are going to be directed downwards. He's recommending that I just ignore the upper main bearings and replace the lowers due to this.
If a main bearing was out of clearance, would I only hear it at idle, or would I notice it as the engine revved up? Kinda wondering what the H-T crowd thought of this. Thanks.
