Default z6 head on y7

A friend of mine has a 2000 civic hatch with a d16y7. He wants my d16z6 head, and he wants me to do the labor. Although I dont know what all is heeded.

His car is OBD2 right? And he doesnt have the money to convert to obd1. So I was thinking of putting the head on and using the y7 dizy? Would that work...

Also what ECU would work? A z6 head gasket will work right?

p28 ecu is best for z6 head
also reccomend z6 intake manifold/sensors/injectors
z6 head gasket will work
y7 dizzy will not work with z6 head and is OBD2
if you don't want to do the conversion, look for a y8 head, and intake manifold, and ecu

You'll also need to add wires for vtec.
And you'll need a different head stud by the vtec solenoid (a z6 one).

IMO it will be more work then what's it worth. You won't notice much of a difference w/ the vtec head.

He has the d16y7 in his car now, and I have a full z6 head. He wants it, and I want to get it going for him.

Wiring vtec is easy. He wants to stay obd2 so is there any obd2 dizzys that will work or whitch one should I use?

Also what OBD2 ecu would work with it?

Obd2 dizzy will not work, I just went through this on my car. You need an obd1 dizzy, or at least the obd1 dizzy "casing" and put in obd2 internals.

For obd2 ecu you would probably want an EX manual ECU, p2p. I just happen to have one for sale

Don't forget you'd need a z6 stud too, lightningmotorsports.com I think it is sells custom ARP head stud kits for exactly what you're doing. Or you can just get the y7/y8 headstud kit and order a single z6 stud from ARP, that's what I did.

Here are my notes from my research:

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">
d16z6 cylinder head on y8/y7 block:
- - 9 Y8 Headstuds - 1 Z6 Headstud in the top left corner by the vtec solenoid. No extra modding. (Z6 stud may need 1 extra washer).
- - z6 head stud is slightly longer
- - Use Z6 cam and cam gear with Z6 dizzy with y8 internals.
- - y8/z6 tbelt
- - Z6 head requires Z6 or Z1 Dizzy.
- - Y8 Headgasket

part number for a z6 stud is AM 6.450-1LB
</TD></TR></TABLE>
