z6 crank in a y8 block??
read my fair share of stories with d16y cranks spinning rod bearings. can a z6 crank be used in a y series block? i'd have no problem using the z6 rods either if need be

use the search function, thats why you havent got any responses, all you need to do is search around a bit and you should find all the info you need

the reason they spin bearings is the oil pump, not the crank. Y series oil pumps suck in realtion to any other D series oil pump. If you put the z6 crank in youll loose yur dipstick. If your that worried about either get a Toga pump and shim it, port and shim your stock pump or send your pump out to Endyn to have them modify it for you

I am bringing this back from the dead for the sole reason that the above statement is wrong. the Y series cranks have crappy oiling ports that dont even measure up to how good the Z6 crank is.
So can they be swapped?

Re: z6 crank in a y8 block??
yes, u can put a z6 crank into a y8 i hear
my crankshaft pulley came out and ate up my keyway walls, so i need to replace my crank cause the keyway is just too bad to repair.
someone told me to put a z6 into my y8 also but im wondering if theres anything else i need to swap aswell.
right now m ycar is unusable till i fix this cause everytime i start it up now it knocks like its ticcking, i dunno if this is because of spun rod bearings?
i wouldnt be concerned if it was just the pully and keyway but i dont knowwhat thehell the ticking is

Re: z6 crank in a y8 block??
Well I dont really wanna hear "what i hear" lol no offense cause I dont wanna throw it in and then BAM throw a rod or something. Its one of those things that i HAVE to know pretty much. I dont want a ticking time bomb 10 miles down the road if you knwo what I mean. If i HAD 1K to just drop in it then I would mess around with that as I wouldnt care to replace bearings lol but i dont

This proves they are the same, CEPT FOR THE OILING PORTS and that they will work.

i have a bent z6 crank and need a crank to finish my motor.
now i know i can use a y7 crank, which i have access to for free, unless its bent too, somebody did a mini me and left a head bolt out, needless to say the cylinders filled with coolant and oil and hydrolocked)

Re: z6 crank in a y8 block??
ive also heard that the only difference in d16 cranks from 88-91 is that the d16a6 and early d16z6 cranks had 2 oiling holes in places that the later z6 and y series cranks have only one hole. even if that is 100% true the main culprit still seems to be that damn oil pump...
although i never hear complaints of low oil psi out of the y engines just that they spin bearings. ive spun bearings twice, one being a stock y7 that i ran low on oil... but my lsvtec did the same thing on low oil. user error? possibly.

Probably user error there with your low oil problem haha.
