I've been researching this, too. From what I've found through archived posts, the Z6 cam will fit into the Y8 head. However, I've read a lot of discrepancy about what will need adjusting--some say only the cam timing via a cam gear and others say both the cam timing and ignition timing. I haven't found a definitive answer yet. Those who say the ignition timing is off say it's off by a lot.

For sure. I'm going to stop by my local shop today and see what they say. Hopefully someone there will know.

my understanding is that the z6 cam will fit into a y8. However your timing will be off In order to correct this, you will need a z6 cam gear as well.

Do you have experience with this or know anyone who does?

Im using a y7 cam gear on my z6 head - so im sure you can use a z6 cam gear on a y8 head. Ive also used my "str" cam gear on my z6 and also my friends y8.

Its the same gear, same everything.

im using a y7 gear on a z6 cam..the two gears are identical..other then they look different.

Also the y8/z6 cam can be swapped...however the y8 is more aggressive.

cam | advertised duration | duration @ .050" | gross lift w/ 1.6int/1.8 exh
D16Z6 244 / 228 | 208 / 192 | 384 / 370
D16Y8 246 / 230 | 208 / 191 | 393 / 369

Yes it will. The Skunk2 SOHC cam is made for the Z6 motor. I have it installed in my Y8 head right now. Actually, I bought it from Daniel...who had it in his Y8 motor for a while.

Not sure about the gear crap but the cams are about the same. The difference lies in the timing. The cam timing has to be advanced about 4 degrees if you put the Z6 cam in the Y8 head.

Check my dyno post if you want more info on my setup...

so you have a Z6 cam in a Y8 head with no cam gear correction????

The dyno files are useless until you correctly degree in your cam.

4.75 degrees at the camshaft, learn to degree ut!!!!!

you want to go to the trouble of swapping a z6 cam into your y8 head just to have a cam gear? A cam gear won't do **** without an aftermarket cam in there.

It will fit, and the timing is somewhere between 4 or 5 degrees advance in the Y8 head to get it to the relative 0 degree mark. I had a Zex stage 1 cam (51900? 59100? I cant remember the number) which is cut for the Z6 and had a Skunk2 cam gear. Ran perfectly when I advanced the gear a few degrees. Most companies only cut one cam for the 2 engines and just make it a Z6 cam expecting you to know to advance the timing, to bad they don't make that info more publicly available.

No dude...that why I said the cam had to be advanced ~4 degrees. But you cant just say "advance you cam exactly 4.75 degrees" because it will depend slightly on the individual motor. The tuning has to be done on the dyno to get it exactly right. Mine tuned out right at 4 degrees.

Whoa, sorry about that. As said before, a Z6 cam will fit in a Y8 head. You just need to adjust the timing, which I did with a Skunk2 cam gear. But as a result of dyno tuning and everything, my tuner and I ended up finding out that my compression was low (dismal results-->check stuff-->find out compression is low). I ended up selling the Skunk2 S1 cam and Skunk2 cam gear to axhandler, as he already mentioned.
