your opinion on most powerfull upgrade

okay guys, whats your opinion on what i should buy that will give me the most power out of, vitara pistons and eagle rods, crower stage 2 cam, crower springs and retainers, skunk2 valves, dual exhaust, i dont want a turbo yet i wioll wait for that just for you guys to know, i have a d16zc sohc vtec, let me know what you guys think

Re: your opinion on most powerfull upgrade

eagle rods, vitara pistons and boost. dual exhaust is poinless. cam is good. idk if i'd go with crower. there are other choices, zex, bisimoto, brian crower. stock honda valves are good to make some decent power.

instead of asking what parts to put on your car, ask yourself this:
1) what is my budget
2)what am i going to use the car for? track, street, drag, street/track
3) what kind of hp do i want.

We kinda need to know what you already have done to the engine. I wouldn't go to the internals if the rest is still stock.

Re: your opinion on most powerfull upgrade

I'ld say if ur gonna drop the compression with the vitara pistons then boost is the only way to go. The only 3 big power adders r turbo, supercharger, and nos. Nos doesn't like low compression so if u went that route then u wouldn't c a big gain, so ur left with turbo or supercharger. Pick one and run with it, lol

well i have headers and exhaust, i wanna go dual exhaust cuz it will lower compression more and its different in the area i live

Re: your opinion on most powerfull upgrade

Don't go dual, it's an absolute waste of money.

An exhaust doesn't lower compression. The only thing a "dual exhaust" will do is get you laughed at by anyone who knows anything about cars, especially on a cold night when your engine is idling and exhaust gases are only coming out of 1 muffler.

You really need to do a LOT more research before you start buying any more parts. You're plan is to install pistons that will lower your compression a lot more than stock, and then build it further with parts that will benefit a higher compression engine. Lowering the compression of your engine is going to cause you to lose power, which isn't going to be gained back by installing a mild or semi-aggressive cam. Either stick with an naturally aspirated build (ex. higher compression pistons and a cam), or wait until you have the money to turbocharge it and go with the vitaras and a turbo build.

Seriously, just save your money until you have enough to built the engine with the correct parts, a turbo kit (or DIY one), proper engine management, and a professional tune. And while you're waiting for the cash, enjoy the good gas mileage you're getting with a relatively stock engine.

Nitrous is a power adder just like a turbo or supercharger if you dont have low compression and a colder spark it will break stuff just the same

I wouldnt lower the compression with any F/I personally. Boost and decently high (11.5:1) is a good way to make power. Lower compression is only really for saftey of your motor, if your tuner knows what hes doin then a higher compression motor will make way more power. Im not sure if that makes sense, I cant really explain what im tryin to say cause of the lack of sleep lol.

High compression with low boost is the way to go . . but this guy really should get that dual exhaust major HP gains lol

Ok, I already know u don't know what ur talking about so I'll spare u the sh!t talking. Yes, nitrous is a power adder but it works differently from FI, u get more out of nos from a high CR engine. There is a point, 11.5:1 to 12:1 is more ideal to get the most from nos (best for what I have tried). The reason it blows things up is ppl usually lean out (high heat) and try to run a bigger shot then the fuel system can support. Nos doesn't force more volume of air into the cylinder it just adds more oxygen to the charge then would normally suck in and the nitrogen drops the charge temps way down. So in all the volume remains the same per cylinder just a denser charge. (Atmosphere in a bottle)

Ur satement is partally tru, u can make a specific amount of power with less boost but there is a point (fine line) that u will reach when u can't make any more because u start breaking stuff from the heat being created. Ppl lower compression because it lets u run more boost, making higher HP with less heat being created. It's not that it is safe really, it's that u can create more HP with a low CR engine than a high CR engine. It's a give take situation tho, which is y ppl ask what the HP goal is and the purpose of the engine.

x2.

a Z6 is only at 9.2:1 which is PLENTY low enough to run boost safely.

the problem with high compression and boost is the danger of detonation. there are 3 ways to handle this:
1)high octane fuel resists detonation more.....unfortunately it also costs too much to be a daily thing.....who wants to HAVE to put 100 in their car?
2)EXTREMELY accurate injection timing(direct injection)(example: vw 2.0t 10.5:1 and about 14.5psi of boost)
3)both

so most ppls answer to this is running low compression(8-9:1) with pretty much any boost they want.............BUT there are some drawbacks to this. low compression means low power, so if you arent in boost you are going nowhere. with pretty much all boost kits you dont get a variable turbo.....meaning you pretty much have to pick a rpm range where you want your power(by the size of the turbo) and tune your engine for that. so if you want good top end then your low compression engine is gonna be a pig down low and mid range until you start getting some boost.

now if you build a highish compression engine(10:1) then you can tune your turbo for high rpm and you dont have quite the pig down low. OR you can use a small turbo(way underrated IMO) to supplement your high compression engine............a few PSI across the entire rpm range.

the other thing to think about with boost is that a large turbo CANNOT spool up quickly unless its variable(variable vane or variable nozzle) so they are useless for low RPM, a small turbo CANNOT flow enough air to make big numbers in a 1.6l at 8 or 9k........so they are useless for high rpm.............im wating for someone to make a turbo kit with a variable turbo and the software to control it........who wants to see a B16T making 300ft/lbs from 2000-7000rpm?

and thats not even getting into a sequential turbo setup........whole nother ball game

no man the dual exhaust is not ment for more hp i know it wont add any its just to fill in the hole in my rear bumper body kit and its just different in this area i dont care about what it does or looks like but i do plan on a turbo charger later during summer or spring ish

This thread is on the fast track for a fall on its face FAIL.

the words body kit and dual exhaust were just used on HT.

OP GL on making it through the day, if you ever log back on i commend you.

is this a fools joke??? its not april yet.

to answer your question...turbo is the best upgrade!

Closer gears and a higher final will give you faster acceleration and more usable torque than any of the above mentioned parts.

yea your right i have no clue guess i should have paid more attention at UTI and mid Atlantic engine building school thanks for the insite

Oh yeah, u attended Under Trained Idiot (UTI) huh, cool. Some ppl go into that school and actually get a lot out of it but most go in and come out just as dumb as b4. I have only met 1 guy who actually learned from going there and it showed. Just because u go to a tech school like that don't mean a damn thing in the real world. I could tell u vast experiances with at least 5 "techs" that came out of that school. To say the least, they suk'd, some ppl have no business working on cars/engines.

Re: your opinion on most powerfull upgrade

not to mention i have two kids in my normal tech school (only 10k for all of it) from UTI and they couldn't even tell me what a work order was. now for some of us that really isn't important but if your learning to fix cars you should know the paper work too.

Re: your opinion on most powerfull upgrade

if you are going to drive the car for a while before getting a turbo then dont get anything now. save your money and wait. you dont need lower compression pistons in it to run boost, and most good turbo kits come with a cam designed for that engine with a turbo. just wait and do it all at once, its better that way. its not good to upgrade one part at a time cuz everytime you take a bolt out then put it back in you....its wearing the threads, everytime you even slightly over tighten a bolt it pulls the threads and hondas are aluminum block so its easier to strip. ive stripped too many bolts to remember mostly because they were already stripped, i just finished it off.

do it all at once and be done with it, dont do it a part at a time.
