Yet another IDLE + other problems
Well, I searched it up on here and found many topics dealing with idle problems when the car warms up. But, in my case its the opposite. My car has a surging idle when i first start it up for about 5 minutes. After its warmed up the surging idle pretty much goes away? What could this be?
Also my temperature gauge fluctuates from just about overheating to normal within seconds. I pop the hood and the motor does not seem like it is overheating? Although sometimes it is glowing red by the cat? What could be causing the cat to get so hot? Could the cat being so hot make the temp gauge go up? I am begining to think that the cat is clogged(?), and it is in turn messing with the air flow or something? Somebody told me the cat or downpiple glowing red could be do to a fuel problem? I dont know im just guessing i need some help...
Thanks to all who reply
by the way car is a d16z6 motor with an CAI if that matters.

the cat is suppose to glow cherry hot, its doing its job...google its function.
as for the slight overheating and surging idle issue, check the coolant level and check for leaks.

replace your thermostat for the overheating problem and see if that helps
replace the cat and see if that helps with the glowing red.

alright im gonna tighten the cap on the FITV to try and fix the idle problems when the car is cold. Its so embarassing especially with an exhaust so its so loud and everyone can hear it.
And where do I get a thermostat at? a dealer?

this sounds very ghetto, but its a test. take off you intake. there will be this little hole in the throttle body. put a peice of paper over it and see if it surges, then let me know
