Default Yes another smog question

I was searching all kinds for an awnser to this and came up with nothing. What I want to know is if I put a 1st gen b16 in my 96 civic could I it get BARed? I know what you people are going to say. You can't use an older motor its an illegal swap. Yes I know that. But I was reading some threads and saw that some people with EFs and 1st gen B16s passing by only converting it to OBD1 and passing it off as a Del Sol motor. Could this happen the same way for me if I convert my B16 first gen to run and look like a 99-00 B16a. Also does the REF look at the head for the year? If not this could be very good on my part.

Thanks in advance,
James

96 civics are Obd2
first gen B16s are obd1, or even obd0 to the best of my knowledge. You probably wouldnt pass because your car is required to have an engine of its own year or newer (according to cali state law). With the trouble youll go thru to convert it, itd be much easier to find an actuall 99-00 b16 motor, which wouldnt require much or any modification at all.

To convert is not that hard or crazy expensive. I know I need manifolds and distributor and ECU. But isn't there no way to tell what year the engine is other than the head?

Well the engine is imported so on the block it just says B16A as for VIN nothing on there.
