No, they are different. I put a z6 zex cam in my y8 motor and it made my car .2 slower. Then I talked to zex they said it was different as well. Alot of time and money. on me!

yep, they are different. the cam will work, but you have to change the timing. There was a post that I read recently on http://www.dseries.org that explained what all needs to be done.

I did my cam a long time ago. When the zex one first came out. I asked the zex people if it would work they said yes. Got it, didn't work. Played with timing, and cam gear. Got better, but still sucked!! I talked to the design people a zex they said then that it was different
O well. Everyone told me timing this, and cam gear that. It always ran slow out of vtec (like doodoo slow).

Y8 flows more air.
zex man proved this on his setup.. the y8 made more power down low, but when it comes to making power up high (not that any d makes much up high) the z6 is the way to go
and you can put a zex z6 cam in a y8 you just need an adjustable cam gear. its similar to puttng an a6 (91si) cam in to a d15. its off about 1/2 tooth.
if you had it straight up it will deffinatly run like poop.
