Y8 Swap into obd1 car?
Okay so I just finished swapping out engines, heres what we got. I put an engine from a '97 civic Ex (d16Y8) into my girlfriends '94 del sol, the only issue I'm having is with the Iacv and maybe throttle body? I used the throttle body off of the old D15B7 engine and mounted it on the D16y8 intake manifold. But I did not change anything around with the IACV, meaning I kept the D16Y8 one on there. Anyways, I start the car up, engine light comes on, cars surging so I shut it down. I disconnect the plug to the iacv start it back up and the surging goes away. I pull codes, #14 and #3. IACV and MAP. Can anybody make sense of my issue? Any help would be great, thanks.

Re: Y8 Swap into obd1 car?
I just swapped out iacv's. I now have the D15b7 one mounted on the D16Y8 manifold, DTC still on, and car ideals at 2K steadily. Is there a difference in throttle bodies? I tested MAP sensor so I know that's working fine. Anybody have any advice? oh yeah i'm using a P28 ECU.

When i compared the two IACV's they looked very similar, the only major difference was the Y8 seemed a little shorter in length. Both had 2 pins inside valve.
It was a '97 civic 5 speed EX engine into '94 del sol Automatic S model.

Your problem is with the d15b7 tb on the y8intake manifold...you need the y8 tb. They are different sizes and the IACV ports don't match up...
As far as wiring goes, I had a y8 in my eg last year...
IAT get's extended to the intake...
I ran an obd1 evap purge solenoid instead of using the y8 solenoid mounted on the fuel rail...zip tied it to the intake manifold and ran a vac line from the charcoal canister to the solenoid and the lower line to bottom/back of the intake manifold.
I had a MAP sensor code that WOULD NOT go away...You might have a bad/damaged MAP sensor but my issue was within the car's wiring so I ran new wires to the ecu...

omg dude, yes! that was my last hope. I changed the ECM's today nothing really changed, putting the Y8 throttle body was my last hope. So i have already extended the IAT already so I pretty much just need to find a vacuum source to tee off of for the purge canister? thanks again.

Re: Y8 Swap into obd1 car?
I got the Y8 throttle body put one there along with a new oem gasket. Surging goes away, now my only issue is this, when I plug in the p28 the check engine light comes on instantly, but when I plug in the stock ECU (don't know witch one it is) the check engine light goes away. The only bad thing about that ECU is the car still ideals at 2k? Do I have a junk P28?

do you have vtec all wired in yet? if not, I'm guessin the computer is reading that the vtec is not plugged in and throwing a cel. check for any unplugged hoses that would cause a vacuum leak and see if the TB idle screw has ever been messed with. might be too far out if it has been

Re: Y8 Swap into obd1 car?
no I have not ran vtec wires yet. I'll do that tomorrow, And I adjusted the ideal screw as much as I could to get it down, I will also be checking all my vacuum connections, One question though, The vacuum line that comes off the top of the obd1 throttle body to the purge canister, where should I run that to now? one end is still plugged into the purge canister and the other should go where?

i'm not sure if that's gonna affect you or not. but for now I'd just plug it with a screw or something. that's what i did when i put in my gsr swap, never had a problem.

wired up vtec, re-timed it, and changed around that vacuum line. SHE RUNS GREAT, with NO CEL's! thanks to everyone who helped me figure this all out.

Re: Y8 Swap into obd1 car?
Sorry to bring this back from the dead. Is the delsol you swapped in an automatic and you kept it an automatic? My girls delsol is an auto and the b7 is toast. My buddy is giving me a manual y8 to put in it but im running into the issue of what ECU to run with the automatic. My buddy also has an Auto P28 but my tuner said a p28 will cause it to run like crap. Any ideas?
