y8 problem + obd2 d15b vs emissions testing
so i just got my y8 scanned since i was gettin a CEL and the damn thing was stuttering, idling at a little over 1g and blowing white smoke when rev it up .... the verdict is misfiring in all cylinders + both o2s are bad. also i noticed the damn thing was drinkin coolant like crazy while at the same time there was this brown sludge in my coolant reservior mixing with it, i honestly think its oil but idk, plz help anyone!
also if it come down to that the engine is going to cost around the same to fix than to replace, im going to pick up the obd2 d15b since y8s are scarce at the junk yards around my way. i know the d15b is just about plug and play but will it throw any CELs because i have an emissions test that i need to pass coming up in 2 months......

I have the same motor. It should pass fine. Under 2700 RPM, your in 12valve mode, therefore your emmisions will be lower as it is. The tech guy at state inspection was blown surprised to see how low my outputs were when i went a few months back. The Y8 harness will run it fine.
The OBD2 JDM D15b (3-stage VTEC) is the exact equivelant as the usdm D16y8, except for the fact that it has a slightly shorter stroke (1.5liter) and different VTEC setup (both 12-16v crossover, as well as regualr VTEC engagment). It has a more agressive VTEC lobe putting out ~130hp.

Once clocked 407 miles to a tank that was just under 1/4 of gas left, driving highway miles, keeping 60-65mph the whole way
You do the math.

Sludge in coolant and blowing white smoke is signs of a blown head gasket. Replace head gasket, replace O2 sensors and give it a nice tune up I bet that will solve your issues.
