Default y8 head and z6 block???'s Help me out.

Hey guys. I am wondering bout a y8 and z6 block. I have a y8 block in a 98 civic wit a hole in the block big enough for like 4 fingers to go in, well I also have a z6 block. Would it be ok if I put the y8 head on the z6 block, but another question, should I get the head gasket for the z6 or the y8, and will the y8 head studs work to hold it all together. Well I would deff appreciate some help. Thanks

I dont no for sure if you can because z6 is obd1 and y8 is obd 2 but if you can do it i would go with a y8 gasket because its thinner for a little more compression and i see people run then on z6's all the time

As far ashead studs go do no reuse stock studs because theyll b stretched go with a set of ARP's not to expensive and can be used more than once

it's not hard to convert the distributors though. but as the same as what he said, i would go ahead and get some new headstubs

What they're saying is if you're going to use the Y8 head, you need the Y8 distributor and the problem with that is that it's an OBD-II distributor with the Z6 being OBD-I.

NO the car already has a y8 in it. thats what it came with, which im sure u kno,. I jus need to put a z6 block in the 98. I dont need to change the dizzy, its already in there. the y8 head is good, so its stayin in there.

Alright, then you'll be fine with the distributor. I just misread things I guess. The only problems I can see are some of the sensors on block may have different plugs than the Y8. There's a big jump going between OBD-I and OBD-II and I'm not for sure if any sensors were added or removed between the two setups.

Its all cool man. But i was thinkin,. If the plugs are diff do you think i would be able to take the obd-II plugs out of the y8 head and plug them into the z6 and make it obd-II?

To put the Y8 head on the Z6 block, you need 9 head studs/bolts from the Z6 and 1 from the Y8. That 1 stud goes by the vtec solenoid; the back left corner of the head. You'll also need to hook up the knock sensor to the block. Off the top of my head, I can't think of anything else that will need to be wired differently, since you'll be using a lot of the parts from your stock engine.
