Re: Y7 With Y8 Intake manifold Question (Crab-Cakes)
im doing something similar. z6 intake mani on a b7. i am switcing all my sensors from the b7 to the z6 but im not sure if i have to. i am not switching the ecu for this. putting a new mani on is like an amazing cold air intake on. its just better flowing so i would suggest not getting a new ecu.
someone else chime in if im wrong.

The regular Y7 ECU would be your best bet if you're looking to remain OEM.
Obviously you can't get close to that combo by staying OEM so your best bet would be a chipped OBD-I ECU with a basemap tuned to your motor. If you don't want to get it tuned and wanna stay OEM then you'll have to use the regular Y7 ECU - the Y8 will be too aggressive of a map and you'll run rich, and that's the closest thing you can use - but at that point I say why not just go with the whole Y8 mini-me swap and throw the head/exhaust mani/intake mani/tb on it?

Not quite, while you can do things the half assed way as you suggest "it's like a cold air intake" - it's not. You'll get a lot more out of an intake manifold if you have it tuned opposed to just throwing it on there on the stock basemap - with an air intake, you can tune it and get slightly better gains, but it's a bit more with an intake manifold.
Though whatever, you can do it half-way and just throw a new mani on it, it won't perform optimally, but you'll notice a slight difference.

You don't run the Y8 computer because once you get to where VTEC WOULD kick in, you'll run super rich and lose power. Keep your P2E, or whatever you have now, and either keep it stock or tune from that. Better yet, convert to OBD1 and get a P06 and chip that to tune from. Then if you decide to go mini-me, you can solder in the extra parts and make your P06 a P28, or just switch it out.

No, the change of stock D15B7 to D15B7 with intake manifold is closer than D15B7 with intake manifold to D16Z6, and that's the closest fuel table you'll get. So if you're not going to tune the best thing to do is to just leave ur ECU alone with the planned upgrade.
What you COULD do (cheaper, and a bit less half assed, but still kinda half-assed) is skip out on the dyno tune - just chip your ECU, and explain your situation to a chipping company like K.E.C. - and tell 'em you want a D15B7 basemap with a slight kick for an intake manifold and they can make a slight adjustment estimate on it - won't be as good as getting it dyno tuned, but you'll have better power/mpg than throwing a P28 on there and more power than just throwing it on there.
