y5 mini-me in eg questions
Ok, I have a 92 hatch with d16a6 with I/H/E. My no.1 rod bearing is going (sounds horrible!). I can get a d16y5 for cheap but not really digging the while one intake valve til vtec. So my question is, what head should I use (z6 or y8). Will p28 run this setup ok? I've searched n searched but can't find answers..

Why not just rebuild the bottom end? It'll end up being cheaper than a swap, easier than a mini me, and more reliable than a Craigslist motor if you do it right.

Seeing as how Y5 and Y8 blocks are the same, putting a Y8 head on a Y5 block would be no different than putting a Y8 head on a Y8 block, otherwise known as "just making a Y8."

Meh, I'd call it a D16Q. Pourquoi? à fin que!
Seriously OP, I would just rebuild the A6 bottom end. It'll still be cheaper than this "cheap" Y5, and you can use a FSM instead of forums.

So should I replace the crank or take it to a machine shop then get undersized bearings? N where would u recommend getting a crank from if I should have to go that route?

Re: y5 mini-me in eg questions
If you absolutely insist on doing it the hard way, you're going to want to use a Y8 head, and a P2P ODB2A ECU. You'll also want to replace your full wire harness with an OBD2A harness. As HPH said, you'll also be tanking your CR, making an already gutless motor even more gutless.
Do you see now why I recommended just rebuilding your current motor? Parts will be cheaper if you rebuild, and labor will be less intensive to do it properly.

Re: y5 mini-me in eg questions
wtf is this troll...
From what is implying you cannot call it a mini-me when you take a y5 head then install it on say a y7 block... ok so what would you call it then genius?
The y5 has vtec just like the y8 only it's called vtec-e so it works a little differently than your normal vtec but it is still vtec just a different form of it.
If you do decide to use the y5 I would just use the block with a different head. To take advantage of a complete hx swap you will need to convert to obd2 and run the p2n which is the hx ecu a chipped p28 will not properly run it.
