Y is my car overheating?
My car over heats every time i drive it around for about an hour to an hour nd a half.
Its need of more coolant in my radiator all the time this happens. And my little coolant tank is boiling! So i have to stop and wait for it to cool down. I take the cap off the radiator and it looks like their is mold, dirt looking kind of thing. But then i add water to fill up my radiator, but its not just one cup, its more like 1- 1 1/2 quarts.
Heres some info about it.
-1.5l engine
-191xxx miles
- new radiator about a month ago(koyo)
- change the oil about a week ago( dont know if that matters)
Also there is a small oil leak from the head.
For some reason im thinking it could be my head gasket that is causing this..
Help me out..

im having the same issue, except im not overheating. theres that moldy muddy looking stuff too inside my radiator cap. i actually started a thread on this today believe it or not:

last time this happened to me my head gasket blew and i had to replace my head since it cracked due to overheating. that was 5 years ago. im going to have my mechanic check it out and see whats up.
keep me posted on your progress. ill keep you posted too.

Sounds like a head gasket problem to me. That moldy dirt looking thing is oil/explosion residue from the chamber getting into the coolant. Its happening to me right now. If you fill up your radiator to the top with water and rev the engine to you see any bubbles? these are signs of a blown head gasket

Re: Y is my car overheating?
actually i just took the head off the other day, and by looking at it, i think it was my head gasket.
So today i took the head to a machine shop so they can do a compression test and see if its cracked. The guy told me the head looked a little cracked, so i prevented before i get the whole head gasket blowed!
I will be installing it back in 2-3 days, so i let you guys kno what happens...
