Default xenocron fuel pump

ok i have a 95 Del Sol and i put a xenocron fuel pump in it 5 days ago as the stock one died and i was going to need it for the motor biuld i'm doing any way. yesterday i was driving the car and at just under the 1/4 mark it dies. turnd out the stock fuel pump screen has a 1" long tube and the aftermarket screen has a 1/4" long tube well today i was driveing it and when i got to the 1/8 fuel mark i started gettting this humming sound from the car. sounds like i'm getting air in the pump. the fuel pressure droped. also when i put in the new pump i left the FPR alone and it was set at 34 PSI with Vac. and 46 PSI With Out Vac. but i was getting 38 WV and 50 w/o Vac. after the new pump. when i got home i turned the FPR down but when i when to the gas station the sound from the pump stoped when i hit 1/3 tank and the fuel presser was back to 38 / 50 but it was 32 /44 when the fuel was low.

So was my FPR set to hi?
it the pump Bad?
do i need to get the screen tube tighter to the pump?

i mean the stock one was snugg to the pump . not a tight as it was on the stock pump but not as lose as the one that came with the pump was.
