Default WTF....!!! Help...

ok this is sum werid ****.. I think i know what the problem is.. but i want to make sure.. Im getting on the on ramp for the highway and I start gunning it.. as soon as my car gets on the highway it just stright loses power to the motor.. I mean no spark at all I sit on the side of the road for 30 mins cranking the motor and no start not even a sputter... I get it towed home.. I open the hood today... (I suspect dizzy..) I try to start same thing.. I get the back of a screw driver and I hit the dizzy cap with it.. several times.. go to start it and BAM starts right up.... Now my question is this.. is it a bad dizzy or just the cap?? how can i test to see if the dizzy is good and the cap is bad.. I noticed a few days ago the cars MPH gage started jumping to like 90 MPH when i was doin like 30 MPH lol...

Remove the distributor cap and check to see if the rotor or cap contact points are worn or carbon tracked. If the rotor looks brownish and kind of burnt, and the contacts have a whitish deposit on them your cap and rotor are junk. I do not know your car, but probably plugs and wires too. Also, pull a wire or two off of the cap and see if there is greenish fuzz in in the cap plugs or on the ends fo the wires. If so, replace the wires too (and cap of course).

How about you stop whacking your dizzy cap with the screwdriver and use it to take it off and inspect the terminals and rotor? Just a thought

Woah, woah! Take it easy! That almost sounded like a good idea.
