WTF 5th gear=Neutral?
 

Cruisin down the freeway about 85mph, i here a kind of whining then all the sudden i have no 5th gear and thats it. 5th gear is like neutral, feels normal, no grinding or whining, but its not there. Every other gear is fine including reverse. Drained the tranny fluid and no shavings or anything. Filled it back up and still no 5th gear? any ideas? And oddly enough, my speedo stopped working like 40 miles previous to losing 5th gear http://is.rely.net/1-92-30009-l-tEzP...BTGi0jOCgA.gif

Motor/tranny is a d16y7 with 72000 miles

Just to clarify...is it popping out of 5th gear or while you are still in 5th gear that it feels like neutral?

putting in 5th is like putting in neutral. but it goes right in

Needs torn down and checked prolly lost parts off 5th wiping out speedo gear and finally killing 5th! just a guess

Check the speedo drive gear
