but with bad timing wouldnt it run way worse? cause it actually sounds good after he goes. so retarding the timing would make it do that instead of the usual sputtering and slower acceleration?

Its called a 2 step. You do that on turbo app cars to help build boost. When you drive normally you dont have 2 step activated.
