yup i got a 251 piece craftsman set then went out and bought all the little tools like universals and such.
get a set with both SAE and Metric never know when you may need a standard wrench. cept when working on a honda, unless an aftermarket part uses a metric bolt

same here except I needed flare wrenches instead of regualr ones but they were only like $20 for 3 wrenches with 2 different sizes on em.
that reminds me I need to go get a torque wrench.

Get the end wrenches with the built in ratchet drive on the boxed end. They look like regular wrenches but they function like a ratchet wrench. They really come in handy for headers and intake manifolds.
Actually if you want to do it right, purchase some wrenches from Snap On. They cost about $28 each but you will be glad (and proud) that you own them. Plus they cost so much that you will make sure that you dont lose them or loan them to your friends. Folks may call me crazy for recommending the most expensive wrenches. But go down to your local Honda dealer and ask a mechanic what kind of wrenches they use. They'll say Snap On, Mac, or Matco guaranteed.
Plus you can finance them on the Snap On truck.
You'll need 10mm and 12mm

Re: Wrenches: Metric or Standard? (deepnite)
if you're no a professional mechanic there is no reason whatso ever to get snap on wrenches.
for items like a torque wrench or presicion tool i would do snap on but not for wrenches, craftsman is all you'll ever need. plus IF you do for some chance break a craftsman toold just goto sears and bam, new one. snap on you have to chase a truck down like a fat guy and an ice cream truck, or send it in.
sum up
pro mechanic = snap on
home mechanic = craftsman

I don't have any SNAP-ON wrenches, or Mac wrenches, they are way too over priced! $300 for a set of wrenches. I have a SK wrench set which goes from 7 to 19 and I only paid $130 for it, and they are also 6 point instead of 12 point. The rest of my wrenches are Craftsman. As for my sockets I use Sk sockets also, 3 times cheaper than MAC or SNAP ON and they also have lifetime warranty, offcourse I do have some SNAP On tools, and yes, their screw drivers are awesome! And their Ratchets are very good too, and I love my 1/2 air gun ($480 ), and I also have some Mac tools. And by the way I use they tools daily and they work fine for me, I only broke one socket cause I impacted it. But if you just work at home once in a while, just get Craftsman, or if you know where to get SK (better than crafts man and about the same price), I use my tools to make a living, and to be honest I hate buying tools, cause they take alot of my money (owe $3000 in tools), so if you just buy them to work on your own car CRAFTMAN OR SK! SNAP ON (if you buy to work on own car, otherwise )
