I discovered Monday evening that I am, in fact, not the Drift King...

Here's the deal: heading into downhill 70 degree right-hander (entrance ramp) going slightly too fast. What to do?

Racer's solution: get on the brakes and plow straight through, hoping to come to a safe stop in the grass, better luck next time.

Drifter's solution: brake, turn, get the rear-end out and get back on the throttle. dial in countersteer and enjoy the slide.

My solution: lift off the throttle, put it in neutral, brake hard and turn. Proceed to spin, smack guardrail and end up with wrecked car and ticket.

Oh did I mention I had the rear Koni's adjusted to mid-firm?



I'm just happy and lucky to get away unscathed and without hitting anyone else. And the damage to the car is not as bad as I initially thought.






These will now stay to full soft till I get to the track and/or learn to drive. Understeer is your friend.

Sorry to hear about that. At LEAST you can admit that it was your fault. I see too many people blame honest mistakes on BS stuff like "my brakes messed up and locked in the rear only" or whatever.

Oh well, at least you didn't do any really serious damage - the motor and everything looks just fine, and it also looks as though you didn't even damage that nice fat-*** radiator.

hope your fram isn't bent the slightest...and take this as a lesson (i need to figure out what that would be) but you're unharmed, and that's what matters!!!

That's what I'm taking away from it.

I hope the frame isn't bent either. I noticed this morning it was pulling to the left a little. that has me a little worried, but it probably just needs to be aligned.

And no, the radiator isn't damaged. *phew*

I don't have a body shop estimate yet. I'm planning on doing whatever I can myself. I'm going to pull the bumper off this weekend and see if the frame is visibly tweaked or not. if not, I'll probably just replace all the broken bits and re-paint it. I don't have much money to spare right now, and I didn't have comprehensive coverage (I'm adding that ASAP). So all repairs will be out-of-pocket.

This is why a) I keep my Konis at full soft out back and b) I haven't gotten a 22mm rear sway yet.

I'm happy having a neutral/slight understeer setup on my car until I actually know how to deal w/ something more tail-happy. I'd hate to end up like all those 17-year old ITR drivers (no offense, Barabus--at least you see the error in your ways)

I keep my Koni's at full firmness whenever I drive aggressive..... to and from school, work, gas station, not church though... put them on soft then.... and when i'm pickin up a girl. I hate the body roll when they are set soft
