is converting my car to obd2 as easy as just swapping engine harnesses?

ie 92 d15b7 to 98 d16y7...

in other words...im getting the full harness and ecu from the bay to the ecu for nothing and was wondering if that is all i would need to convert it or is there more to it?

Ok, what you are asking to do is somewhat complex. Do you have an OBD-II motor or something? If you have an OBD-II motor and your putting it in an OBD-I or OBD-0 car you would have to either make the engine harness clips that connect to the chassis harness the same OBD as the car, or you would have to make the chassis harness clips that connect to the engine harness the same ODB as the engine harness/engine. If you are using an OBD-II ECU in an OBD-I or 0 you would need a conversion there as well. Why exactly do you ask the question. Need it for funtionality, or just like the look of OBD-II clips?

Cut the old engine wire harness clips off and splice them in to the new engine wiring harness.

but to clear up the question better:

Im getting a y7 98 obd2 motor...my gf's dad and the guy at the yard said i should just convert it to obd2 since im getting the complete engine harness and ecu that would reach all the way down to the ecu...SO...would it be easier or harder to convert? Or should i just stay obd1 and reuse my b7 parts...

if your getting all the wiring and everything for an obd2 motor why not other wise wont you need an obd conversion harness?

Or should i just stay obd1 and reuse my b7 parts...</TD></TR></TABLE> Ok this is what I would do. Figure out whick ECU is better. Take the clips from the dash harness for that ECU and splice them in. Then take the OBD-II clips from the chassis harness and replace the OBD-I clips on your car with them. This way if you decide to go B-seires later all you would need to do is buy an OBD-II motor. Even if you get another OBD-I you could always convert it back. SAVE THE LEFT OVER CLIPS!!! LOL

there must be a diagram of something for this...i just dont want a headache with wiring issues...i'll have to wait and see the whole swap first before i decide...i thought just reusing the old b7 parts would be alot easier...

thanks for the link! So i'd use my old b7 ecu and be alright then i guess since the y7 doesn't have vtec...interesting...i'll have to clear it up with him some or anyone else...

EDIT oh and i searched...but nothing pertaining this particular swap and didn't wanna GUESS that since they're swapping over with the B series, it should be the same with the D's.
