Would you buy, Prefab AWD kit for 96-00 hatch? Just wondering
The idea has always been there and IM sure if someone made the kit and it could handle serrious power it would have a huge market. I know they make kits for GTIs and such but this would be deff something work looking into. I hope to one day make a set up from Crv parts and what ever it takes to hold serrious power and overcome the downfall of bigpower and front wheel drive. Input

i hope you realize that the crv drivetrain and other versions of honda's 'realtime 4wd' is not awd. all it does is send a small ammount of power to the rear wheels when the fronts slip. it's not a performace enhancing system at all.

Exactly. If you could build something bolt-in, reliable, and that would give me around 40/60 (that's 40% front, 60% rear) distribution of power for 3-5 grand, i'd think about it.

of course all parts would be beefed up, IM not talking about making it for everone. But even if you say it only sends power to the rear when it is needed, Hmm sounds like comming off the line the power would be sent to the rear exactly when you need it. Im not sure but that sounds like performce enhancement to me. But Hell Id be more interested in an awd system that only worked for launching. Less power restrictive. Awd off the line then switches back to front wheel drive id buy that for some $$

I would much rather see a rear wheel drive conversion than AWD. So many people don't know **** about AWD but they want it because Subaru and Mitsu and AUDI are all going turbo/AWD nuts at the moment.
Like your average EH2 isn't begging to be tubbed with MT 15" slicks on it

hahaha an awd prefab kit
oh lord...
you go ahead and get cracking on that
when you figure out how to MAKE an AWD capable b series transmission let me know.

Id like to know where you are going to put a drive shaft too. Then that pesky problem with the rear pumpkin.
stop dreaming.
AWD with a Turbo NSX motor... now that would be something!

Re: (Kamin)
Lots of people make aftermarket trannies for b-series apps, and most of them are for FR or MR or RR setups. With an FR setup, i believe they make a tranny that mounts to the motor in it's stock position, all it takes is making a channel for the driveshaft and welding in a rear differential, connecting it with axles to custom hubs!

Re: (Mr Milano)
yea ive never seen those before. cool.
and that still dosent solve the problem of mounting a pumpkin, driveshaft and axles.
also that is for a linear mounted engine (transmission twords driver), you would have to remount the entire engine bay.

and it also doesnt solve the problem of concurrent front wheel drive, unless of course we are talking dual engine!

Just buy an AWD car.... It'll be way more reliable and you'll save yourself a bunch of headaches.
