the ex/si tranny swap is one of the best things you can do on the single cam...

it is a pretty big difference, the only issue is that you say your short on money, a auto to manual swap is expensive...so im not sure how you are gona do it on a tight budget

Yes, you will be faster. Not more horsepower obviously, but much better gearing.

The y8 would be better by having the steel shiftfork, then the z6 aluminium one and heard of them breaking. But like another guy said before, I don't know how your gonna go cheap on a auto 2 manual swap, but good luck.

the only thing that's expensive is buying the tranny/clutch/fly.the rest of the parts could be found in a junkyard.or even all of em'.

I'm a newb when it comes to 5th gens.......does the Y8 hydro tranny plug & play in the 5th gen chassis? I assume it does, but it's rarely safe to assume anything.

even if your car was a manual dx I would assume that it would make your car accelerate even faster than if you swapped on a vtec head. The dx tranny holds you back so much.

Yes.

To the thread starter, definitely add an EX transmission. Your quarter mile times will go down by roughly half a second

how much am i roughly looking at to get a decent job.....? you see i fear i might have to have some work done to my auto no.... it sounds like it kinda grinds into gear when i put it in drive.....

so if its gonna cost me alot of money then i just want to wait and save for the manual swap.

Not to hijack or anything but I'm also planning to do the same thing. I plan to get an EX tranny, do I have to budget for anything else, assuming the tranny has no problems? My car is already a manual transmission.

How hard is it to put in or how much would it cost to have a shop put it in? I need to fix the bearings and I figured it might be cheaper to just get a used tranny.

I'm sure its better, but do you have to get new clutch, flywheel, and bearings?

I'm trying to find out to make sure that I can afford all the stuff I need. Right now I don't think I have the moola for that extra stuff. I just want to buy a tranny and install it.

Thats a lot. Why didn't you just buy an EX/Si swap? I'm sure it wouldn't have cost much more than that. Yea it sucks too that you didn't even get the better tranny.

Sell your car and get a manual tranny something else. Don't waste your time doing a conversion IMO.

Your Dx gearset in your tranny is not holding you back--it's the auto tranny itself.

exactly. i wish i wouldnt have bought the auto in the first place and just kept looking until i found a manual. i just got excited that i found an EG for a good price in good condition, perfectly stock, and owned by adults. with the money i spent on the auto -> manual i could have had my turbo kit completed and on the car. i'm kicking myself for it now, but i'm glad it's a 5 speed...

After you've spent the money you don't have by doing your automatic > manual conversion, you'll be moderately satisfied with the moderate increase in quickness. But in the long run, I promise, you'll find that it's not enough. Then you'll be looking to spend more money that you don't have by swapping in a B-series motor, or trying to save up more money that you don't have to buy another EG that comes with a manual transmission.
