Is this worth my time or money?
Heys guys. I picked up this 92 hatch with a jdb d15b and with under 70,xxx km. Only things i have done so far is to remove the rear interior and fix a few things. I also paid a grand for it too. What i am wondering is, is this worth putting money into. I dont have lots of money and this would be done paycheck to paycheck and what ever i can do for free. Here are some pics, please let me know what you think. Or have any ideas. Cheers.

If you give it alot of love, sure it will be worth it in the end. If i were you i would probably strip it, and have body work and a fresh paint job before doing anything else.

just depends. if you can have the body fixed and it painted for a REAL good price (a good connection) then it might be.
i had a similar situation only not as bad as yours and i found myself putting in a lot more than i expected for it to finally get the outlook i wanted. took just about 2 yrs too since I also had little cash. I still yet to lower mine and tint windows, but ive hit my annual budget this yr. maybe next. But in the end, it feels right, its fun, and it all grows on you. you just have to be prepared for consistantly throwing down chunks of your weekly paycheck towards something that seems to take longer than its worth (if are really dont have a lot of cash)
hope this helped some

Here's mine that I picked up recently:

I say go for it. They are light, relatively easy to work on, and have a lot of aftermarket support.

to be honest just take ur time and make it nice and clean dont go all out and pour liek 10g's in the car because these cars dont have a re-sale value...no ones willing to pay alot for a car thats been done up ...and in the end u'll just loose money.

i have to agree on the resale value. civic's are a dime a dozen and right now in my life, if i had it to do over, i wouldnt 'invest' in a car that loses its value every day. projects that take longer only make things worse. put a budget on total you are willing to spend and stop there. otherwise 3yrs down the road you will find yourself putting $8K in a car worth $4K, maybe.

Thanks for all your posts guys. I picked up this car as a project and i just wasnt to sure if i landed myself in something i couldnt handle.
I do have a connection for the paint, ex-honda employee. Also, i have some friends with shops and **** like that. So it looks like i actually do have a chance. Cheers.

Damn, thats like a $400-$500 car, in my book.
If you want a nice ride, start with a car thats in better shape.
Removing all that rust is no small job.
Unless you are doing sexual favors for your body guy, fixing all that rust(properly) and repaint the car is going to cost you $2000-$2500(thats hook up price).
We are talking major metal work(theres rust on the strut towers for gods sake).
I dont even want to know what the underside of that thing looks like.

First i would wipe down the whole rear with interior cleaner. Second, I would buy some simple green and spray down the oily motor. I clean my motor aleast once a week.

Re: (AsSanitySlipsAway)
it looks hella dirty but ive seen worse come out looking fantastic in the end... imo i would rather pay 2500-3000 for a clean body stock hatch and start from there but there are other people that are the exact opposite, i cant deal with rust body work and paint because i suck at it, but i can do anything else so as long as the body is clean im good to go
good luck with it
p.s.
dont get too far in over your head with it, do you homework before you start to get your hands dirty or you will loose your *** in it

Well it may actually be worth my time. my gfs dad has some connections so i am getting all the body panels for free plus a buddy of mine offered up a complete b18b swap for 800 cdn. This might work out after all.

Word. Not only that, but dumping 5k into a car worth 1k doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of financial sense.
