i was wondering if anyone has ever tried one of these http://www.gtechpro.com/ss.html im wondering how accurate they really are, and if they actually show how much power you are putting to the ground.

the nearest one for me is about 600 miles away. anyone tell me if this would give me atleast a close baseline to start from?? im not going to be tuning from it. just its impractical for me to drive 2 states over to spend 200 for 3 dyno runs, so i can turn around and come home. i dont have enough in my car to make the trip worth it. now once i get a turbo, then yes, i will go get it tuned with a dyno, but for now what you guys think?

like i said, i dont want to drive 1200 miles to do 3 runs on a dyno... just for gas it would be almost the 200... not to mention a hotel, food, and everything else. i dont have the luxury of driving 10 mins to a local shop and have whatever done. there is a dyno thats only 300 away, but i called and they hung up on me when i told them it was a honda, all they do is diesel trucks. unless if someone can tell me a dyno thats close to my location. im not going to mn. now is there anyone with some useful advice?? all im asking is if these things are close to actual figures, or way the hell off, and not worth the money.

to be honest, that's the first i've seen of something like that and i would want one later on.

think of it this way.....

$200 for the gtech...

or....$30 in gas + at least $100 for a decent hotel + $x dollars for the dyno services = more than you would with the computer.

I would do that, and if you don't like it.. just return it/sell it.

If you do get it, let us know how it works! I'm curious

If it sparks your interest and you feel like it would be a fun thing to have, then go for it.
From what i understand, its not directly plugged into the car. Being thats the case, you can go from car to car with it.
If you got a knack for cool little gadgets, id say get one. As for how accurate they are, i cant say for sure.

I actually remember seeing commercials on speed channel for these things. They claim they are very accurate. With a $200 price tag i would imagine the product gets close to its mark. Try looking up a product review of it somewhere

i seen these in a jegs magazine. they also have one from autometer that fits in a 2 1/2" gauge pod. doesnt have the nice graphs, but still gives you your corner g's, and hp, tq, and qt times. ive seen these for some time now, and never have heard of anyone having them, or knowing how good they really work.

I've thought about this product many times. I think its great that it is removable and can go into other cars, so my buddies and I paid a little bit each and purchased! Also tells you your 1/4 time/MPH so on and so on.

well even if its a couple hp off, you could show whoever how fast you really are, and what kind of power your putting to the ground. now if the thing had GPS it would be all you need

i have one and it used to be very inacurate until i weighed my car on a proper scale then it became pretty accurate.

yeah, i would imagine that you would have to get an accurate weight from a truck stop with you in the car. that;s basicly all it has to go off of, plus the quarter mile obviously. you couldn't just enter the weight off the door jam sticker.

Nope. that's the GROSS vehicle weight rating. That means that's how much the vehicle can weigh with all weights in consideration. It's not the actual curb weight. You could get a pretty accurate account of the curb weight when you go to emissions, or...like you said, go to a truck stop.

Ha, same here, I was gonna say the same thing.

I used to see the commercials all the time "it measures your RPM right through the cigarette lighter and gives you sequential shift lights, just like Formula 1." "It measures your RPM, 0-60, handling G's, and yes, Horsepower, and torque!"

Haha. I have no idea if it's accurate though. I kinda figured it wouldn't be...just because of what it is...but that's just me...
