The last time i went to autozone for a cel the guy gave me some weird code that neither of us new what it was. I later had to go to the dealer and get it checked out and it turned out to be a 02 sensor.

Turning the car to on, and counting the long and short blinks of the Check engine light.

True, but there are advantages to autozone checking.

I had a code of one flash. I thought it was a code 1(primary o2) but it turned out to be code 10(IAT).

With a reader you can also break the code down futher.

Just code 10 can be read by a scanner as:

p0111 Range/Performance Problem
p0112 Low Input
p0113 High input

Mine was a low input which traced to a short in the wiring.

Scanners also allow you to get rid of the code without losing important information that takes alot of driving to get back.

yes go to auto zone, so u they can confuse the **** out of u..i hate going to auto stores they never or barely get **** right..all they can do is look at their computers to see if thay have **** in stock.. sometimes they cant even do that right..i went to kraegan 3 times in the middle of my swap to get integra radiator hose...

the autozone in my area gave me an EX rotor instead of a DX so i installed and saw it didnt fit. when i took it back to them and said they gave me the wrong one they almost didnt switch it because it was opened and dirty. also when i told the guy i needed it switched he could of swore i drove an accord.

Yeah let the guys at autozone check it. I had to break down and go up there before I got my OBD software so I could find out wether I was running rich or lean (plugs showed rich, but wanted to be sure). Hell it's free so why not?? If you want to do it yourself though..check this out

i got lazy and took my 97 hatch to autozone one time,..i got there and asked if they can check the codes,...the response i got was

[redneck voice] we cant check dem der japanese cars. To many of dem computers and sensors. *hacks up a loogie and spits* [/redneck voice]

after that i stopped being lazy and just jumped the connector

I did. This isn't a Honda, though. It's my gf's pos Mystique. From what I've read, you need the code scanner to check it. It's cool for now, though, I reset it and if the light stays off I won't worry about it. God, I hate that car.

lol i dont know crap about mystiques, but it should say how to do it at least in the haynes manual.

I don't know **** about 'em either, except that Ford does not use anti-seize on their factory installed spark plugs . Yeah, I'll check the manual. Like I said, it's cool for now, it doesn't run any differently (not neccessarily a good thing, mind you).

just check them yourslef. It takes like 2 minutes and its easy. I check mine every once and a while to make sure my cel isn't something else besides #67 that comes from not having a catalytic converter.
