Is it worth it?

Is it worth it?
hope this doesn't sound too much like a stupid girlie question....
ok so me and my husband, bought a 92 civic dx for $150, had to replace some stuff (head, alt, battery, a couple of other little things) so were about $400 into it and now its burning oil. pretty bad too like a quart a day from what he says. and he drives like 300 miles a day for work so thats not gonna work.
so my question: he says he just needs to do a rering job on it, which would be like what $300? so do you guys think its worth it or do we try to get rid of that and our POS neon to get one good car? lol
i know its kinda a big job to rering from what he says and winter is coming....but i do love that car....

If the engine is smoking it might not just be rings - it could be valvestem seals, which are in the head, valve guides, or possibly out of round/scarred cylinder walls.
I personally would buy a complete engine from an importer who gets them from Japan with lower mileage than local american salvage yards with 150,000+mile swaps. You can probably get the Japanese version of the D15 non-VTEC for under $500.00 and the swap itself is very easy if you have basic mechanical knowledge and a decent set of tools.
You just replaced the head, but how do you know for SURE the head was good? Unless it was pressure tested and checked over at a machine shop you could have gotten a head with worn valveguides and stem seals.
Also I don't know any shop that will do a rering job for only $300.00 from start to finish - that's dirt cheap, but again reringing probably isn't going to fix that bad of an oil consumption problem.
Keep the car, swap the engine out for another with a warranty, and continue loving the car. They are my favorite cars to own (92-95 Civics) because they are so versatile.
If it's rust free I'll double what you've got in it and buy it from you
