Hey, I know this a late msg but did u ever swp that d16y8 In th ek hatch? If so, did you use the y7 cat or y8 cat to smog it? Or has anyone else done this swap legally? I live in Cali and cops strict about Lil hondas and go around popping all the hoods they can and I dontwant to fail state ref if they were tO pop my hood

Cali smog laws state that all emissions equipment must be intact, last I read. If you have a Y8 motor, use the Y8 exhaust. If you have a Y7, use the Y7 exhaust. At the end of it all, though, it should pass either way.

Well I have a d16a in my ek hatch right and I do not have a y7 cat/exhaust manifold. I looked around for a used one but they all have that Crack onto of the upstream 02 sensor. I looked up a new one and they are $600-$700. I rather just pick up a d16y8 for $450-$550 and get a $150 cat for it
Because that is how much the cats for ex model ek's go for. So that will work right? Or would I need the y7 cat even thought I will be using a y8 longblock?

I guess I'll say it again.

If you don't want to take my word for it, call your local ref station and ask them.
