Anytime I read these it stems from the fact that the build was not done properly.

What have you checked so far? Have you checked the basics, like making sure there is proper oil/solenoid is clean/vtec is wired properly?

Sounds weird that the gauge cluster goes funny

Sounds like a poss wiring problem

Do. ALL!! Of your basic checks on sensors and continuity to and from the ecu

Any ideas ,,its not the ecu ,distributor,or wiring harness,,new speed sensor,, ??????

they recommend check it all.. what more could someone recommend?

check none of it, just keep driving it, eventually it will all fall into place and start working.

I had a buddy who has the exact same build...his vtec would engage then drop out almost instantly...we thought no oil pressure...but luckily another one of my buddies is a genius with Honda's and ended up pulling the ecu and finding out that the ECU was chipped and pronged the wrong way....any, we fixed that and now everytime we hit tec the speedo goes nuts....we are in the process of changing the dash harness due to faulty wiring... So maybe try checking your dash harness...When we figure it our i'll update you and tell you what it was!

I know there is a cable under the hood on the drivers side that the voltage goes with the rpm's. you can see what the problem is by checking the voltage while revving. if the number fluctuates with the rpm's, then the problem is the actual cluster. if not, then the speed sensor or wiring was the issue.
