Wiring VTEC kick in to aftermarket tach
Here's the deal, I'm swapping a GSR into a del sol or hatch (chances are it won't be wired for VTEC). He tells me I can wire the VTEC to an aftermarket tach so it kicks in when the shift light does, seems logical. Any Comments or ideas for wiring it other then to a big tach with a shift light? If i had to have one of those in my car I'd at least want the shift light to kick in when I'm going to shift and not when VTEC hits.
EDIT: I also thought this was a semi-good idea because it acts as a VTEC controler since you can set what RPM's the light comes on at

I dont quite understand why or how you would hook it up to a tach but it doesnt sound like a good idea to me. And if the car isnt wired for VTEC, you do that yourself. Only a few wires to add and you can get all the directions to do that on here.

Yeah that didn't sound very appealing to me. I'll try to clear things up:
Noone I know is very good at wiring and my buddy who does these swaps says he doesn't know how to wire the VTEC for a non VTEC car. He said that in passed swaps he's done for him self he just hooks up the VTEC to engage when the tachometer shift light comes on. You can adjust the shift light effectivly adjusting when your VTEC engages without buying a $300 VAFC etc.

well that doesn't make much sense to me, because the shift light wouldn't be doing its job anymore. like the name says, its a shift light. a shift light is to tell you when to shift. when it comes on, you shift. read these threads...

your buddy that does those swaps should not be doing swaps if h cant run 2 wires to the damn ecu and one to ground.
anyway hooking vtec up to a shift light is stupid and ghetto.
