I used a set of Firestone Winterfires last year and they worked great. Didn't get stuck once (even in deep snow) and they kept my car on the road. Fairly cheap too.

last year i got 2 bridgestone blizzaks for my front- made a world of difference. - too bad my rear tires were regular all seasons because my *** end would slide out but the front never lost traction- and i deliverd pizza in the snow so i drove everywhere with them.
