Default Windshield protection?

Morons around here have their trucks overfilled with gravel...it falls off, and some ghey van kicked a piece at my windshield. I'm going to go in a few minutes to try to get it repaired, but the glass guys say that it might crack, and the damage will always be apparent.

Is there any film that I can have put on to protect the windshield? This happens way too much around here....and if I drive with any more of a space between my bumper and the next guy, somebody will get between us and kick more gravel at my windshield.

I saw the 3m film for body paint...but is there anything like this for windshields? Thanks..

Where can you get 3m film for body paint? I was looking for some.

As for the winshield, I'm not sure. I need some of that too. I have 1 repaired rock chip that cost me $45 and I have 2 other chips that I hope don't crack.

You have to have an "authorized dealer" apply it unless you look closely on the 3m site that shows off some big dealer that also sells its own kits..there's actually a 99 Civic on there ;D

here's the corporate site..
http://products3.3m.com/catalo..._html

and the site with "kits" .....
http://www.invinca-shield.com

(You can probably find better distributors, though.) If they can apply to paint, I wonder whether this WOULD work with windshields or someone else makes a product to protect.

Some deeeep digging through documents leading to a product leading to a manufacturer leading to another document about a product.. I got this..

http://www.tesa.co.uk/professi....html

Actual windshield film, it looks like. At least I know that such a product exists now!

Not only does it probably take off a mpg or two (I'm tight about that), it would look gh3y on my car...

I actually saw the rock flying because I can process senses really quickly (thanks, action games!), but I didn't want to swerve or anything because I couldn't look over in 50ms..my head just doesn't move that quickly.....I'd rather have to replace a windshield than spend $2500 on body repairs (liability only, baby!)

The reason that I said that is that I meant that the rock came in the air, and it flew a little above the height of the car and came down and }smack{ .. shield would have done nothing..

I have received emails from both entities!

Maybe I can get a sample to put on my old windshield, and I can take a riced up bb gun to the sample to try to get it to chip....then throw gravel....then launch it with a potato cannon.

I like this one, if it actually works...

20-mil Ricochet Graduated Density (RGD) - the outer skin of RGD is harder than the interior layer, thus providing a cushioning effect against impacts. RGD gives even better protection to headlights than normal 40-mil PVC film; it's unlike anything else on the market today.

Wish me luck with these guys and their products.

I talked to my rep and he said that he thinks they only offer it in a 30" roll so I don't think that that is going to cover the whole windshield. It would be perfect for track days though. This is the same stuff that nascar uses and you can put about 8 or 9 layers on and just pull the top layer off when it gets too messed up.

I am going to try and get more info on this stuff if you guys are still interested.
It may actually come in a larger size. I will let you know
