Default Window cranking really hard...

1997 Civic Hatch Dx

This seems to be fairly common...

Window cranks ok until its about 2/3 of the way up. Then its very difficult and at the end when it reaches the door frame, it is almost impossible to get a good air seal without feeling like the window crank will break off.

Should the track be replaced?

Should i get a new mechanism? If so where is the best place to get one cheap?

Start by spraying some silicone lubricant into the rubber side channels that guide the window glass.

Those within the door frame? You talking about that rubber window surround or do i need to take off the door panel for that.

The rubber side channels extending from the top of the door to inside the door. No need to remove the door panel. With the window down, lubricant sprayed at the top of the door panel will spread to lower parts of the channel by gravity.

Ok sounds good, I'll do that first. If that fails do I get a new regulator ? Or do the regulators fail in different ways usually.

If lubricating doesn't help, the next step would be check whether the window glass and regulator are properly aligned. There's always a chance that the regulator is bad, but rule out the other items first.

Silicone spray worked wonders on my stuttering windows, they roll up smooth as butter now.

As far as I can tell no... I'll pick up some silicone spray today.

mine fell off the track a few months ago, had to take the panel off to get it back on...at the same time i had the panel off i lubricated the track and now my drivers side is much faster than my passenger side, the regulator is just a motor so it usually either works or it doesn't, if its going slow its mostly caused by the track needing some lubricant
